For those who can't handle the white-knuckle responsibility of real sea monkeys
Posted by: kafkaesque on May 22, 2002 02:58 PMWhat about my all-time favorite: Donkey Kong?

There are no freakin' donkeys anywhere to be found. What - did the game designer have no "M" on their typewriter, and had to substitute a "D", thinking nobody would really notice (since the original target audience weren't native english speakers)? Or did "donkey" just sound funny - or maybe challenging? I know I for one feel challenged when I hear my adversary may be related to a donkey, but does anyone else?
Posted by: kokogiak on May 22, 2002 03:51 PMI believe the original name for the game was Honkey Dong. They had to change it for obvious reasons.
Posted by: eyeballkid on May 22, 2002 05:37 PMum. uh.

Posted by: sugarfish on May 22, 2002 07:37 PMI mean "geeky" in the best possible way, you understand.
Posted by: kafkaesque on May 22, 2002 10:23 PMI think that neener neener just made you the geeky one.
Posted by: eyeballkid on May 24, 2002 11:19 AMThe idea behind Donkey Kong was this: 'donkey' as in stubborn, Kong as in King. So it basically means 'stubborn gorilla', but that doesn't roll off the tongue the same way.
Posted by: the lapine avenger on May 24, 2002 08:28 PMA note about posting images:
We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys
wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone
else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts
on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found
here. Thanks.
