June 07, 2002 : And Aloha

See you guys later - I'll be on Bermuda next week.

Hey, could you keep an eye on the house for me? Maybe water the plants, watch out for burglars, that sort of thing? The key's under the mat, just let yourselves in.

Thanks!

People have said these things about that :

What, you never saw a walking chamber pot before?

Hey Ico, did you put a password system on your blog?

Posted by: kafkaesque on June 8, 2002 04:31 PM

No, my hosting company password protected it, and even I can't access my site. They told me I violated their terms of service, although I have no idea what I did, and they haven't shared that with me yet. It's taking days and days to communicate with these people. They've password protected my ftp access too, so I can't retrieve my files and upload them somewhere else. It's really frustrating. I'm going to give it a few more days and then try to find other hosting - I feel like someone cut my arm off!

Welcome, iconomy. Have you tried to get your files from the Google cache? you'll probably find the pages there, if not the images. of course, retrieving them would be terribly slow-going, but it's a start.

Also, dare we ask who the host is, so we can avoid them? Or would you rather not say?

Thanks for the welcome ;)

My host is digitalrice.com - they've been really great until a few weeks ago, and I'm still trying to get them to answer an email about all of this. I've just reconstructed most of my files on another server but I'm a perfectionist, and I can't seem to set up the commenting the way it was before, which is the only way I want it. I'm going to be working on it all night tonight. I'll be thinking of ybhc sitting on the beach sipping daquiris while I sit in front of my monitor sipping diet iced tea!

If anyone has any good suggestions for *cheap* hosting I would be very appreciative for a comment here, or better yet, an email. Evan Izer suggested his, but after checking it out I see that they don't offer php, which is a must for me. I was looking into pow-web but it almost seems too good to be true.

Iconomy,

I'm sorry (and p###ed) to hear how digitalrice is treating you but at least i no longer have to feel paranoid about "being blocked by your site"...(posttraumatic mefi syndrome)...

I can't wait till you get something up and running-be sure to let us know!

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
