August 08, 2002 : Say When....

So, even though the current swap hasn't quite ended we have people that want in on our swappy goodness. Any thoughts on when we should have the next one?

Posted by tj at August 08, 2002 12:52 PM

People have said these things about that :

Mainly because I want to go CD shopping and need a reason to justify buying the Echo & the Bunnymen Box Set

Posted by: tj on August 8, 2002 12:55 PM

Buy Songs:Ohia's Axxess & Ace, Cat Power's Moon Pix, Gomez's Bring It On and Morcheeba's Big Calm first.

I think we should wait a while. Say, November.

Man, I've been feeling the same way about the Echo & The Bunnymen set.

I don't have any of their CDs but Crocodiles and Porcupine get a lot of time on the turntable lately.

September - October is my feeling on the next swap. I am organizing a swap on the Raindogs Listserv that I like to call "The Captain Harlock Memorial Random CD Swap", which always results in some niceness. If any of you guys want weird stuff from Waits fans, I can include you in that bunch.

grrr. i wanted to put a song from big calm on my mix, but when i opened up the case *gasp* it was gone and i have no idea where it may be. so, i put on tape loop instead, which is still a good 'un. but damn, now i'll have to buy another copy.

Posted by: witchstone on August 8, 2002 01:07 PM

can we at least wait until these first mixes are cold in their grave before we start talking about replacing them?

Posted by: witchstone on August 8, 2002 01:08 PM

Fall sounds good. I can't deny putting a little thought into it myself. What about the next meetup? We had a four month buffer between this and the last one, didn't we? Do I hear a Xmas party?

Posted by: adampsyche on August 8, 2002 01:09 PM

witchy: i can give you a copy of that. Don't buy the same CD twice.

Posted by: adampsyche on August 8, 2002 01:10 PM

i'm always up for a good mixin'. i'd say late november or so. that way we can get all holidayish and sentimental-like.

Posted by: eyeballkid on August 8, 2002 02:25 PM

By November I shall have my lean, mean burnin' machine and will be bursting your aortas with some cardiac-arresting real phat music! It'll give me time to read the manual, too.

I hope you all like guitars and incomprehensible lyrics, is all I'm saying for now.

I'm game, but I must admit to some preoccupation as to receiving y'alls mixes, as Italy's postal system sucks worse than an industrial strength Hoover. How has the sending-overseas experience been?

Posted by: romakimmy on August 8, 2002 02:48 PM

Romakimmy: Portugal is a significantly less efficient version of Italy but I've been getting the CDs 2 to 3 days after they've been posted. The U.S. postal service is actually worse (though not bad) - it takes 4-5 days using the cheapest rate.

Well worth it - please join in!

Nel blu Dipinto Di Blu...Volare!

Less efficient? Not if you're getting CD's 2-3 days after they've been posted. I'm still waiting for a package from 4 years ago.

But, hey, Carpe Diem. Count me in. As with Miguel, hope y'all like incomprehensable lyrics; maybe between now and then I'll work on translations as liner notes.

Posted by: romakimmy on August 8, 2002 03:23 PM

I think all CDs should contain incomprehensible bits. My mixes (I forget which was which) contained songs in english, french, icelandic, italian (fyi, romakitty: gianmaria testa) and spanish.

Posted by: Marquis on August 8, 2002 03:28 PM

I included a Tori Amos song for my "incomprehensible lyrics" bit.

I look forward to the next mix swap, as I find you a uniquely personality-laden bunch with good taste(s), and my last mix was sort of middle of the road.
I feel I have more interesting mixes in me.

I'm up for it whenever(?!?) although I've only received from two Monkeys so far. I have a lot of fun making them so I'm not bitter about folks being slow.

*kisses adam chastely on cheek*

sorry, i'm still on asterisks. thanks!

I have always missed the MiFi swaps.. count me in on this one? I am diverse as well as versive...

Posted by: versive on August 8, 2002 06:30 PM

I'm a bit chicken about the swap--what if you people HATE HATE HATE the music I love love love?

Could we agree that you just lie about it if I get the guts to do it?

Posted by: readymade on August 8, 2002 06:33 PM

Readymade, the whole idea is to get music you are not familiar with or wouldn't listen to normally. No-one's going to crap on your musical tastes. That sort of claptrap gets mighty tedious, and there's no right answer about what is good anyway.

Posted by: kafkaesque on August 8, 2002 06:41 PM

I promise to love yours, readymade, if you promise to lie convincingly about mine...

Posted by: scribblative on August 8, 2002 06:42 PM

*wonders why I might be so eager to share without giving a hoot whether it is appreciated or not - am I that much a sound diva?*

but frankly, I just like good (i.e. wierd) stuff and like to share.

Posted by: versive on August 8, 2002 06:46 PM

Mr. -esque,

Thanks. I'll start looking through my goofy cd's now in preparation for future swappage.

Scribblative,

I will positively fawn.

Posted by: readymade on August 8, 2002 06:54 PM

I suppose those that were left out of this one could do their own swap until the next one.

(although I am working on a masterpiece right now that I may not be able to wait to send out: Soundtrack from a Non-existant John Hughes movie)

Posted by: tj on August 8, 2002 07:05 PM

ok, maybe not a masterpiece.. but I think it's a cool idea

Home Alone: The Lonely, Depressed Teenage Years

Posted by: kafkaesque on August 8, 2002 07:14 PM

I was actually going for the pre-HomeAlone thing.. ya know the ones with the good soundtracks (a la Some Kind of Wonderful)

Why not join in and say something too?
