September 09, 2002 : who's that monkey?

This should be an easy one. Bonus points for their names, the song they were singing, and what band did live covers of the song with a vacuum cleaner.

People have said these things about that :

OK

Jungle Book
Baloo the Bear and King Louie

They're singing "I Wanna Be Just Like You"

who covered that? Wasn't it Big Bad Crappy Voodoo Daddy or something?

Posted by: kafkaesque on September 9, 2002 02:29 PM

Phish covered it, and yes I think Big Bad Voodoo Daddy did too. I can post the mp3 later.

We have a winner! And yes, I own the DVD.

(forgive me if I post lots of screenshots now that I have the software. blame lupo.)

Posted by: adampsyche on September 9, 2002 02:37 PM

Now, assuming you have the Simpsons seasons 1 and 2 DVDs, we can play guess the episode, eh?

Posted by: Ufez Jones on September 9, 2002 02:39 PM

No, don't have those, but I do have Sopranos 1-3...I'll post some more quizes later...

Posted by: adampsyche on September 9, 2002 02:41 PM

"I wanna walk like you, talk like you," etc.

Posted by: b****fire on September 9, 2002 02:46 PM

I'd just like to take the opportunity to say I have never seen an episode of the Sopranos nor Sex in the City, in addtion to my practically Coen-less list of flicks viewed. I do, however, know by heart the scripts of My Fair Lady, The Little Mermaid, Steel Magnolias, and Showgirls.

I am the Original Priestess of Pop Culture Cluelessness *sob*

Lupo, you bastard! See the monster you have unleashed upon us?

Posted by: Crash on September 9, 2002 02:59 PM

Los Lobos covered that song, too.

"... fire ... so that's what that scoundrel's after."

Posted by: whatnot on September 9, 2002 03:06 PM

I've never seen Sex & The City either, romakimmy, but The Sopranos is well worth watching. Both the writing and the acting are exceptional. Any time I think it's getting mediocre, they do something that surprises the hell out of me.

Posted by: tizzie on September 9, 2002 03:18 PM

i don't like sex & the city. i saw one episode of the sopranos and didn't understand why it's so popular (i'm not into the whole gangster thing anyway). but:

i did get hooked on Six Feet Under. which is a problem since i don't have a TV. so, i only get to see it when i wheedle my way into someone's apartment. someone with HBO, that is.

Posted by: witchstone on September 9, 2002 03:54 PM

First of all -- thanks, adam. Now I've got various Jungle Book songs running through my head. Probably have to go rent that tonight to dislodge them.

Also not a Sex & the City fan (too irritating), but I've got to agree with tizzie on the Sopranos' quality, and with witchstone on Six Feet Under. The few episodes that I've seen have been good. Sadly, I'm cable-ly challenged at the moment, so I don't get to watch any of it. (weep)

(Ok, Jon. I've come to play. Hello, 9622ers.)

Posted by: aine42 on September 9, 2002 04:53 PM

I watch Sex and the City (love it), Sopranos occasionally (I sit in awe, like I used to back in the early days of the X-Files), Six Feet Under (I come from a funeral home family, so it's especially interesting to me). Curb Your Enthusiasm is fucking brilliant at times.

And no one, no one watches Arli$$.

Welcome, aine42. Pull up a fluffy beanbag chair.

I cancelled my cable subscription - and thus get no tv reception here - just to get that smug I'm-superior-to-tv feeling. That I'm-superior-to-tv feeling has the taste and texture of unsweetened oats. I do get more reading, and drinking, done, though.

There is only one thing on TV worth watching children and that is reruns of Homicide: Life On The Street. Best. Cop. Show. Ever.

And it features Bridgeport native Richard Belzer.

Posted by: jonmc on September 9, 2002 05:25 PM

I just watch sports and more sports and then when I'm done watching sports I watch a little more sports.

And just when you think I've watched all the sports I can, I'm going to watch just a little bit more.

There is nothing else I'm even vaguely interested in, except for Junkyard Wars, and the fascists who run AT&T have moved The Learning Channel to a higher plane, pay-wise.

My policy regarding the "I have no TV" superiority kick is just to lie and say I have no TV or tell the truth, depending on which statement will benefit me more in any given situation.

Posted by: kafkaesque on September 9, 2002 05:29 PM

I never got into the Jungle Book, but I used to watch TaleSpin religiously every afternoon.

Posted by: jpoulos on September 9, 2002 05:37 PM

Homicide was really good.
*wistful reverie interrupted by memory of wasted hours watching college football*

Posted by: liam on September 9, 2002 05:57 PM

Sopranos is a great show. Other than that, I watch NHL, and that's about it. Once in a while I put on Animal Planet, and TLC. Mostly the cable is for hockey, though.

Posted by: adam on September 9, 2002 06:37 PM

I download movies and TV shows like it's goin' out of style (which it ain't, thank goodness) with my ultracheapo DSL. My lovely and talented partner, she's the TV Queen. Although she mostly watches Korean TV, which puts me off a bit, given that my Korean skills sux0r. We swap a couple of times a day, and I catch up on the news from BBC World while she surfs. C'est tout.

I no longer have television, and the only shoe I'll miss is Six Feet Under.

Who's gonna tape it for me? We'll work out a barter.

Posted by: brittney on September 9, 2002 10:25 PM

I also miss the shoe that I lost on The Dueling Dragons, but I meant show.

Posted by: brittney on September 9, 2002 10:27 PM

They canceled both Invader Zim and the Dennis Miller show, the only things I liked to watch.
If I didn't get cable with muh joint for free, I'd never even consider paying for what's left.

You can't even squint through the new scrambling they've given to the porn channel.

Posted by: dong resin on September 10, 2002 12:02 AM

Scrambled porn did a number on our whole generation, DR. I was stunned when I found out womens genitalia didn't have flipping vertical lines and tons of static running thru them.

Posted by: jonmc on September 10, 2002 12:06 AM

It's a big letdown, isn't it.

Why not join in and say something too?
