Well, Gogol's story The Nose is one of the famous of all Russian literature and bureaucrats are monkeys of sorts, so it makes sense in a senselessly Russian kind of way. Or not!

Perhaps the nose can pick up it's own scent and lead us to the culprits...

Here I crash headlong into one of the gaps in my cultural literacy - I had not heard of Gogol's nose (maybe that should be Gogol's "Nose"), and always thought that the disembodied noses that somtimes pop up (ha!) in fiction all trace back to Sleeper.

He launches a search and is perturbed when the nose turns out to enjoy a higher civil ranking than he.
I can relate.

The Nose is indeed a great story. The outraged owner seeing his nose out in high society. Classic.

Ps, Kaf your burning up in Southern Cal, I saw the fires, and the Santa Anna winds, they suck.

I also had a dream that monkeys like that were living under Lupo's skin. It was terrible. There was no rent control and prices were skyrocketing. Then, the garbage men went on strike.

It's true though, Thomcat. The air is thicker than usual, and I could see a demonic-type smoke cloud in the hills the other day.
Grievous things are indeed afoot.

Shit anathema. That sucks (for the monkeys, I assume you mean, the kids can do it to themselves all they want). Three times a day for how long? The day after coming down off of x is bad enough, but to do it every morning, only to start rolling again? That's horrible.
