Well here it is, the beginning of the cold and flu season, and I've already got cold number one, which I'm trying to keep at bay with lots of hot chocolate and tons of over-the-counter meds. I'd like to be at home in bed like our sick little simian friend in the picture, but unfortunately we're already two bodies short in our office this week, so it looks like I'll have to just tough it out.
Anyone have any good remedies for keeping me going for four ten-hour days until I can collapse into bed Thursday evening?

Oh, that's warts.
I had this damn virus of late, that if I drank any cold liquids, as my throat also ached it seem to make me more horse and congested. Good Luck with it, a swig of Jim Bean worked the best for me, besides a prescription.

Posted by: Miguel on October 14, 2002 02:10 PMNow for some real help.
Nyquil.
Let me repeat.
Nyquil
I love NyQuil. Especially the green kind. That's probably because I like Pernod so much.
I must say it doesn't really make me tired though.
Of course, at any given moment my blood alcohol content is about 50-50, so YMMV.
Posted by: kafkaesque on October 14, 2002 02:24 PMI server NyQuil at parties. Sure, I'm a cheap bastard, but two hours later no one seems to care.

Posted by: eyeballkid on October 14, 2002 02:31 PMNyquil (or Jim Beam, thank you Thom) would be great, except for the teensy little caveat that I'm at work, controlling millions of dollars' worth of computers and sensitive financial information (I know, I can't believe it either. You think you're frightened...) so I have to stay more-or-less awake and sober.
I have discovered that Cheetos® Flamin' Hot® brand Flavor Cheese Flavored Snacks have just the right amount of onion powder and garlic powder to free up the congestion in my nose (or maybe it's the disodium glutamate, either way I ain't lookin' no gift horse in the mouth) so that's a good thing.
I'm with octobersurprise - Nyquil shots all around. The bonus is that they already come with their own wee "built in" shot glass as part of the packaging.
Posted by: scribblative on October 14, 2002 02:41 PMCrash, have you tried DayQuil? It seems to be a combo of cold medicine and uppers that makes functioning on the job possible. It makes me a lot less groggy than any other over-the-counter remedy. Use Thom's remedy at nite, and mine in the day.
Posted by: tizzie on October 14, 2002 02:43 PMActually spicy foods are always good for colds, Crash. Hightail it to your local curry house for some vindaloo, stat!

Has anyone tried Hot Tamales, I almost did for the similar reason Crash used the above food remedies.
A red tamales candy in a shot of Nyquil, would really do a trick on you. Be like a redhot-shot but better as in the real one the tabasco leaves a tamoto based tin can feeling in my stomach usually up to a 1/2 hour of yuck.

If sushi doesn't gross you out when your sick, the wasabi should clear out that nose lickety-split. Also, all that unadulterated protein gives you a good kick (gotta be good for you when you're tuckered out) to keep you a little lively.
Tea, tea, some more tea, and then some tea. With sushi for lunch. If sushi just seems to weird, get tempura udon soup. And then drink some tea.
Tea. I think I'll have some tea. Suddenly, tea sounds like a good idea.

Dammit.
What does this mean?

Actually, I'm really partial to the TherafluTM lemonade. Used to be, I almost looked forward to getting sick just so I could drink big steaming mugs of Theraflu and spend the day in bed. Then I learned that too much Theraflu makes your head explode and that kind of pooped on that party.
But, yeah, I'm thinking a shot of NyQuil and a spoonful of wasabi would cure just about anything.
