Posted by: shane on November 26, 2002 09:02 AMJon, an otter and a mink are two different creatures. Unfortuneately for me, the two minks I helped trap and skin, we left these for the bears. The pelts went to the Flat-Head Indians, for those who want to know. They were used for ribbons in their hair. But let me tell you, whooweee mink smell very very musky, yuck.
Posted by: Thomcatspike on November 26, 2002 10:40 AMOh...my bad, here in Manhattan, while we have plenty of wildlife, we're kinda short on otters and the minks are all wrapped around old women on Sutton Place.
Posted by: jonmc on November 26, 2002 10:47 AMThat freakin' lemur is awesome. Truly radical. Gnarly. You can see he's in his "you talking to me?" stance.
Posted by: adampsyche on November 26, 2002 02:12 PMOh, yeah - that shot, well it was one of the first times I'd actually done an explicit otter love scene , and I was quite nervous. That's Jenny-O lying on the snow under me there. The director (Spivak? Spitzack?) was trying to put everyone at ease, and had asked all non-essential crew to take a powder (even so there were about a dozen 'essential' teamsters hovering about). Jenny was just a doll, she really kept me focused and everything was professional.
We broke the scene into three stages, and the still above was taken from the initial 'discovery' stage. There was magic on the set that day (and I'm glad for the styrene snow, cause that would've been damn cold otherwise).
Even though the scene only lasts about two minutes in the final film, we spent the better part of two days rolling around under those lights to get it right. It was my first hard lesson in trust on a professional level - you open yourself up to your costar and you director and when the reciprocal openness and support comes back to you - man, that's why I'm in this business, it's phenomenal.
The pelt? Yeah, it's real, it's mine - ha! No, I haven't started balding yet (unlike some other famous mammals around here).

kokgiak rawks. we've missed you around here, friend.
Posted by: jpoulos on November 27, 2002 08:10 AMMT should have a "attach user to site" feature which would prevent people like Kokogiac from scarpering off for long periods just after he's made everyone realize how much he's missed.
Also a "convoke user" feature, to rein them in immediately.
Totalitarianism does have its advantages, you know.
Posted by: Miguel on November 27, 2002 02:21 PMAwright already, I'm back and promise to de-lurk now that I've been able to catch my breath (I've been a good little web elf for amazon.com for the past few months. Ho Ho Ugh.)
And Miguel - didn't someone use the 'convoke user' feature on me? I mean, why the Hell am I here anyhow?
Posted by: kokogiak on November 27, 2002 02:33 PMThat was "Bigby's Crushing Hand" not "Convoke User".

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys
wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone
else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts
on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found
