Professor Don Gresin has kindly accepted to host the 2003 Monkey Butt Marathon in Tallahassee and is now accepting matriculations from his exercise-challenged monkey brethren and sestren.
N.B. Single members should find the list of prospective mates sufficiently stimulating to enroll.
Posted by at December 26, 2002 11:21 AMGood find Mig. Now to find someone to run this beast and represent 9622net....
Posted by: Thomcatspike on December 26, 2002 11:36 AMBilly Joe McCallister jumped off the Tallahatchee Bridge, Migs. But it's always nice to think of Bobbie Gentry, one of the most underrated artists of the 1960's.
Besides, Tallahasse is in Florida, which is enough to make many people fling themselves from bridges...
Posted by: jonmc on December 26, 2002 12:01 PM"Q: What happens when I puke?
A: If you don't know the answer to that one yet, we can't help you with it. "
These are definitely our kind of people.
Plus they said there might be lap dances. Even I might fly three thousand miles and run in circles 'til I puke if there's the possibility of lap dances.

Post race festivities were held at Chez Flippo, where the post race beer was served in the hot tub.
Posted by: Thomcatspike on December 26, 2002 12:30 PMI was born in Tallahassee. It's true. I mean, I got out as soon as I could, I'm not a complete idiot...but it's where my parents were going to college.
And now, for the FSU football war chant. (I did not make this up...this is actually what they chant.)
"Whomp 'em upside of the head, yeah, yeah, yeah! Whomp 'em upside of the head!"
And people wonder why I begged my parents to send me to boarding school...in another country.
Posted by: dejah420 on December 26, 2002 01:27 PMOkay, seriously...who broke MetaFilter? (or is it just me again?)
Posted by: ColdChef on December 26, 2002 02:55 PMIt ain't just you. So much for killing a slow work day with a bunch of virtual hissy-fits...
Posted by: Cyrano on December 26, 2002 03:09 PMreally - it's not just me (re: metafilter) I thought my work was onto me. Unless, Matt's onto me. Oh dear.
Posted by: goneill on December 26, 2002 05:02 PMOkay, seriously...who broke MetaFilter? (or is it just me again?)
I remember reading from Matt flooding in his area and it was knocking his power out from time to time in a Meta-talk thread.
But the server is on the east coast???!
This I read in another thread in Meta-talk regarding the time zone posting in comments now.
Maybe Matt just has if off. Yet leave the archives on as I'm way behind in my reading.
Posted by: Thomcatspike on December 26, 2002 05:07 PMthose fucking gawker people.
I read the thread about gawker.com in Meta then came home flipped on the news to hear more about gawker.com. Yet the news report spoke only of single sites...how they have gone off since 2001 with the crash of dot com companies.
So it left me to think the news refers to singles hooking up on the iternet as gawkers.com-ing??
please remember I'm in the south where I feel like I'm in a cartoon at times
that's what i meant:
those fucking gawking people
(disclaimer: i know the gawker people, so when i make fun of them it's tongue in cheek, but done also to show allegiance to monkey land where we can make fun of mefites and gawkers and slashdotters and kottkeites and ceabsurdists - no wait, not them. those people are awesome)
Posted by: goneill on December 26, 2002 05:38 PMSo much for killing a slow work day with a bunch of virtual hissy-fits
Who needs virtual hissy-fits at work? There's always enough of the real thing at my office.
I could enter the monkey marathon. I know what happens if I puke and I'm not that far from Tallahassee. Too bad the only person I know there is fleeing to Ohio soon. On foot.

Posted by: jonmc on December 26, 2002 07:28 PMHey, thanks for the links and lyrics to Bobby Gentry and "Ode to Billy Joe". Very evocative stuff. Think she's still single? I may be way off base but did Vicki Lawrence of MaMa's Family ever sing a hit version of "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia"? Thank you.

A note about posting images:
We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys
wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone
else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts
on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found
here. Thanks.
