anathema
krimur
adampsyche
tizzie
yhbc
chico
eyeballkid
kaibutsu
Anyone I missed? Assuming no, that's 14; how about 2 groups of 7? and let's say, disks must be out 7 days after the lists are posted. I hope to post them later today. Good?
I also need mailing addresses from some of you. You know who you are.
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 11:42 AMSeems like a good #.
Are you still gathering the track lists, Fes? I assumed you would post them here.
Posted by: kaf on March 24, 2003 11:51 AMOnce I post the swap lists, then I'll call for volunteers to post their playlists (or have me post them, if [like you] you've sent them to me), so that people in different swap lists can request disks from each other.
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 12:02 PMI was missed somehow, but that's OK. Go ahead and have your little swap without me.
*sulks*
Posted by: Crash on March 24, 2003 01:10 PMAw, let Crash in, Fes, won't ya? He's alright, and I bet he's got a swell record collection, gee, I just know it!
And I'm annotating my track list right now. Y'all will need something to read while you're slogging through the 74 minutes of polkafied Lawnmower Deth covers I've compiled.
But maybe I'm sharing too much in advance.
Posted by: Chico on March 24, 2003 01:29 PMI'm ready and willing myself. I initially was in on it, but then missed all the punches thereafter. 'Got me a setlist, and it's ready to burn. You with me, Fes?

*crosses his legs, tries feebly to look nonchalant*
I, uh, meant to do that.
Posted by: Chico on March 24, 2003 02:39 PMWhat is love?
Baby don't hurt me.
Baby don't hurt me.
No more.
As Diamond Dave so succinctly put it: You got to roll with the punches to get to what's real.
Posted by: witchstone on March 24, 2003 02:48 PMGentlemen, I believe we have found Haddaway's Hideaway.
Posted by: witchstone on March 24, 2003 02:58 PMEyeball, you just reminded me of every horrible song ever played in the gym I used to go to.
Posted by: adampsyche on March 24, 2003 02:58 PMServes ya right for going to a gym, adam. All joggers need to be hooked up to treadmills and forced to generate electricty. Exercise just staves off the inevitable and cuts into your cocktail hour.
Posted by: jonmc on March 24, 2003 03:00 PMNo lists. You trust my tastes, then you ask for a cd. You don't trust my taste, chomp a mouthful of my taint.
Posted by: ColdChef on March 24, 2003 03:29 PMCan we have a no Thicke rule please? He may be the walking embodiment of bad and needs to be bitchslapped.
Posted by: jonmc on March 24, 2003 03:40 PMI agree with Chef's point, if not his gnarly attitude. Although when I posted my list last time everybody said nice things about it, which made me feel like one of the cool kids.
So I guess I could go either way.
Posted by: tizzie on March 24, 2003 03:48 PMnp
I just thought Fes had asked for lists at the beginning of these here shenannigans.
Posted by: kaf on March 24, 2003 04:08 PM"So I guess I could go either way."
More women need to own up to that.
Posted by: Crash on March 24, 2003 04:10 PMOK, aw is in, crash is out. That makes 15, three groups of five. I hereby close the Swap.
Before I post the groupings, anyone with problems concerning being in a group someone else, email me privately. Emails says "Please put me in jonmc/ebk/kaf/tizzie's group" will automatically earn you a copy of my disk - you DO like Journey and Gorky Park, right?
Technically speaking, sending me a playlist was not and is not required. I do like reading them, though, so I have not overtly put a stop to the practice, or explicitly stated that they are not required. I'm doing so now.
What I will ask for is, after the swap lists are posted, that all who wish to put their own playlists and cover art up for review and comment including the possibility that people from outside your swap list might request a copy of your disk (a request which you may or may not honor, as you wish), do so. This is a purely voluntary thang. I will not post anyone's list unless they specifically request that I do so. which if they do I will be happy to.
I will post groups as soon as I get addresses from everyone. I need addresses from the following people: kaf, adampsyche, tizzie, kaibutsu, marscrash, anathema, chico. I get those, we are good to go. I will post the swap groups here (no addresses) and send each of you an email (with addresses).
Good?
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 04:24 PMOh, and upon preview, if you don't like it, you can chomp on a mounthful of my taint.
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 04:26 PMIf it matters, and it probly doesn't, but for the record, I'd like to announce that I haven't put any Tony Hightower songs on my CD. It seemed too narcissistic, and besides, if any of you want to hear my stuff, I'm come over to your house and serenade you personally.
I'm really good live, you know. Not to brag or anything.
Posted by: Chico on March 24, 2003 04:27 PMYes, but send the addresses to my home, email, which I believe you have fes.
Posted by: jonmc on March 24, 2003 04:27 PMI'm really good live, you know. Not to brag or anything.
hey, me too!
Oh, wait, you mean, like, singing? never mind then.
which I believe you have fes.
yep. no sweat.
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 04:30 PMChico! You should have! I was hoping you would, and I don't think it would be narcissistic, anarchosyndicalist, arctic, stuck up or whatever. I think it would be cool.
But hey, that's me.

Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 04:41 PM"Rescue Me" and "Band Of Gold" are on too many compilations, as is the ebtire ouvre of Tommy Roe, who I learned today recorded a version of "Stagger Lee."
Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid.
Posted by: jonmc on March 24, 2003 04:46 PMYet "Workin' for the Weekend" languishes in midnight to 3 rotation on VH1 Classic. It's a travesty of justice.
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 04:48 PMChomp on a mouthful of my taint is the best phrase ever, ever.
Posted by: brittney on March 24, 2003 04:56 PMI JUST SAID IT TO A COWORKER!!
Coworker: "Hey Fes, think when you get a moment you could help me locate the [company named deleted] files? The CDs are missing."
Me: "Hey [coworker], think when you get a moment you could chomp on a mouthful of my taint?"
hilarity ensues.
*sends ColdChef a buck*
Posted by: Fes on March 24, 2003 05:00 PMAny final requests of what you'd like me to scream at Daryl Hall & John Oates as I streak past them naked on live television must be made now.
I've got "MANEATER" tattooed in gothic lettering across my stomach.
Posted by: witchstone on March 24, 2003 05:04 PMAsk them if they've ever swapped with Siegfried and Roy.
Posted by: ColdChef on March 24, 2003 05:13 PMI've always thought:
Hall: Bitch
Oates: Butch
Confirmation on this would be nice.
Posted by: ColdChef on March 24, 2003 05:15 PM"Any final requests of what you'd like me to scream at Daryl Hall & John Oates as I streak past them naked on live television must be made now."
Which channel is that again?
Posted by: Crash on March 24, 2003 05:22 PM"John, did that naked redheaded woman just scream 'Marquis Rules?'"
"You know, Sweet D, I think she said, 'Markies rulth.'"
"Markies rulth? Is that Islamic?"
"I dunno. Come here and get to 'stash ticklin'."
Posted by: ColdChef on March 24, 2003 05:30 PMYes. Bad visual. But now we know who the "Maneater" is.
Posted by: Mars Crash on March 24, 2003 05:59 PMGah.
*rubs eyes*
My fault for reading it, I suppose.
Offtopic, but I wanted to share-I cut and pasted from another forum cuz I didn't want to write it out again:
My son got a letter from the Air Force Academy today. He is still being considered for an appointment-but they have also offered him something called a Falcon Foundation Scholarship . To make a long story short, if he doesn't get the appointment this year he gets to go to a program at one of four different schools and at the end of successful completion is virtually assured of receiving an appointment. The lady at the Foundation told me 97 percent get in.
So in a nutshell either this year or next my boy will almost certainly be at the Air Force Academy. (He was planning to just enlist if he didn't get in-now that won't be in the plan.)
It is good news, but somehow this week it feels funny.

Address lists coming to you momentarily. I mark it at 12:30 a.m. NYCT... so let's say that everyone has to send their disks by midnight next Tuesday...? Should be a breeze. Those who do not send their disks will be castigated publicly in this forum, where all may wither you with myriad ego-blistering wisecracks.
Questions? Comments? Critiques? Curses? Asspats?

Yeah, baby. The Cruisers are my (non-gender-specific) boys.
We're gonna make our mixes, and they're gonna be great. 'Cause see, if we can't be great, there's no sense in ever playing music again, man.
Posted by: Eddie on March 25, 2003 02:13 AMGah. I have work and school straight up until Thursday, so I may have to get mine out that morning (had to pick up an extra day because I took off Sat. for the swap). I'll get as much done as I can tonight, though.

You know, there was an Alice Cooper cover to that song.
Ladies and Gentleman, Daryl Hall is definitely not gay.

Posted by: witchstone on March 25, 2003 09:47 AM*basks in Swapinistratator glory, tempered by knowledge that this entire thing could still go straight into the crapper*
You going to have to provide significantly more details than that, my dear Witchstone, if you want we mundanes to continue living vicariously through you...? rank speculation on my part, but I'm guessing Daryl conducted a not-so-surreptitious boob-brushing followed by his second-most-charming smile...? And you, you enchanting naif, your first move before you could stop yourself was to look and see if John has seen...?
Posted by: Fes on March 25, 2003 09:58 AMboob brushing?
remember, always brush your boobs up and down, not side to side, and make sure to floss.
Aren't you worried that private eyes were watching you?
Posted by: Mars Crash on March 25, 2003 10:09 AMw'stone -- I flipped by the show a couple of times assuming I'd spot your unmistakable 80s-music-loving self in the front row. But alas, no sight of you.
And, if I may add, there were altogether too many closeups of Daryl Hall, who is beginning to bear a frightening resemblance to the Cowardly Lion.
Posted by: pardon me on March 25, 2003 10:23 AMI was invited to go down into the pit with all the rabid fans, but I hung out in the back because I wasn't staying for the whole show.
Posted by: witchstone on March 25, 2003 10:41 AMMaybe it just appeared they had rabies, because the peppy strains of Kiss On My List was driving them mad! MAD I say!
Posted by: Fes on March 25, 2003 10:58 AMFes, i think you are on to something with the Lion resemblance. Hall could break out in "If I were King of the Forrreest..." at any moment.
Then there's that Wicked Witch(stone) of the North angle. Hmmmm.
Posted by: tizzie on March 25, 2003 11:11 AMI actually happened by the Hall & Oates show for about 30 seconds. I think all of us experienced the same internal conflict - Look for Witchstone vs. Aaaaaiee! Hall & Oates!
So who's next on the big show? Morris Day?
Posted by: kaf on March 25, 2003 11:24 AMWitchstone vs. Hall & Oates! Next ... on Celebrity Deathmatch! (No contest there. Missy, your every move would chew them up.)
Posted by: Chico on March 25, 2003 12:10 PMDamn, if I'd known you guys would tune in for a couple of seconds, I totally would have gone in the front row and stayed the whole concert. That's how much I love you.
. . .
. . .
. . .
Well, maybe I don't love you that much in reality, but the fantasy of it is nice.
The Bowie LBR kicked ass. The best part of these is seeing how the musicians act during the commercial break.
Posted by: witchstone on March 25, 2003 12:17 PMI saw the Bowie one...He's still amazing. Though, I must say that he has muzaked his old catalogue a bit.

I admit to liking new Bowie the same amount as old Bowie, if in a different way.
I listen to earthling and those tin machine records quite a bit.
Then I tell people about it, disrupting the pleasant flow of many an amiable thread.
Posted by: dong resin on March 26, 2003 12:43 AMIt's just that no one takes you seriously after that divulgence about enjoying that Phil Collins song.
Posted by: brittney on March 26, 2003 01:50 AMIjust received Kaibutsu's very nice looking disc in the post. No chance to listen yet, but two Pogues songs bodes well.
Posted by: kaf on March 30, 2003 10:31 PMWell, all the mixes are ready to post, except for the most difficult part. Figuring out what should go on the covers!
Posted by: ana on March 31, 2003 07:44 AMit's more a "rockin' out" kind of mix than a "cool obscure stuff" mix, though there are a couple of real oddball tacks mixed in. hope it's acceptable; threw it together pretty fast, thinking that the post deadline was last Tuesday, rather than this one.
I got yours, too kaf; that first track is amazing! Also dug the Costello and the Cave/ MacGowan sweetness. Thanks a lot!
Posted by: kaibutsu on March 31, 2003 09:44 AM(presently working on, i shit you not, the third draft of my mix for the MeFi swap. this will rock. i'll post a track list, once it's done (may take another darft?), and if anyone's dissappointed with the 9622.mix, I'll send a copy along.)
