Our household has now received CDs from EBK, YHBC, and the acronymless Chico. Haven't listened to them yet, but am currently giving mr. eyeball's "mixed" a go, and so far so good.
Has anyone else received their CDs yet? Thoughts? Praises? Death threats?
...
Poo?
Posted by adampsyche at April 03, 2003 04:19 PMKaibutsu's disc was peppery good, as I said back in the other thread. Weren't you paying attention, Mr Psyche? Are you going to have to stay after class AGAIN?!
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 3, 2003 04:28 PMI just received EBK's and Adam's today, so I haven't got a chance to listen yet. I must admit that I didn't mail mine until today. It was a hellish week of urban lumberjacking.
Trees are heavy.

Just as a young suckling must break free from it's mother's teat, so too must the music review thread stand on its very own.

I haven't listened to Kaibutsu and Kafkaesque's discs yet - I'm waiting for the weekend when hubby's off visiting friends and I can crank up the volume.
In the meantime, my disc is NOT serious. It's love songs - kinda sorta. And one drinkin' song that reminds me of jonmc.
The disc is called Hot Monkey Love, and here's the tunes:
Billy Mann & Patty Griffith - Tracks of my Tears
Beach Boys - Wouldn't it be Nice
Beatles - Two of Us
Better Than Ezra - Good
Amy Rigby - Cynically Yours
Alex Bevan - Skinny
Al Green - Let's Stay Together
Billie Holiday - Our Love is Here to Stay
Over the Rhine - Fever
Garbage - Kick My Ass
Liz Phair - Polyester Bride
Scott Miller - I Don't Go With Her

The Sound of Raisins

13 Big Heart (Live) - Lounge Lizards
14 Shiver - Giant Sand
15 What a Wonderful World - Nick Cave & Shane MacGowan
16 The War Is Over - Black Heart Procession
Wow. I jsut noticed I made a typo on all my discs and even carried it over to the above track list. What an asshole I am!
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 3, 2003 05:08 PMwow, it's like a party in my mailbox! Three mixes suddenly appear on the same day; I'm happy.
Posted by: kaibutsu on April 3, 2003 05:18 PMI have to say for all you shoppers that I really liked the Kafka mix, especially the Giant Sand, Simon Bonney & Elvis Costello tracks.
Posted by: krimur on April 3, 2003 05:19 PMI received 4 in the afternoon mail!
Kaf's - excellent, as always. A little slow and dark for spring, though, do you think?
Tizzie's - Surprisingly tasty! the Billie Holiday=>Over The Rhine=>Garbage tryptich was inspired.
Chico's - Holy moly. Boggy in some places, but overall a superfunky thang. This is the one disk I received that I think is going to grow on me over time. And Bree Sharp right up front!
yhbc - haven't listened yet, looks good though. More on this one later.
Posted by: Fes on April 3, 2003 05:29 PMMy mix was really a mixed bag. No real theme or flow. It was all just an excuse to include Ultravox and Sex Gang Children.
I think we have quite similar tastes, though, Krimur.
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 3, 2003 05:32 PMA little slow and dark for spring, though, do you think?
You should hear me in winter.
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 3, 2003 05:33 PMAgreed Kaf, & if you haven't already, you should really check out this.
hm, I just realized that I didn't send Fes a copy of my mix... I should remedy that.
(presently jamming hard on disc one of Krimur's mix; reviews will be offered unto the masses as I make my way through the stack.)
Posted by: kaibutsu on April 3, 2003 06:12 PMYes indeedy, sir! I'd ask for one as well, but I should be getting yours by virtue of aw being in your swap group.
I'll throw mine in with hers. She may be a tad late getting hers out, being that she works so late at night, but she will get them out...
Posted by: adampsyche on April 3, 2003 06:35 PMI love Adam's mix. I wish I were participating. I wonder if he'd take a copy of my old one from Fall since he weren't in my group?
*bats eyelashes*
btw, all the mixes look great. I'm very sad that I had to bail. Hopefully next time around I'll have enough new music and time to put something together.
Posted by: ufez on April 3, 2003 06:36 PMAdam's hasn't left the cd player in my car since I got it.
Here be mine:

00.00 Bran Van 3000 - BV3
00.38 Mint Royale - Lonely Girl
04.56 Aztec Camera - Jump
07.36 Pizzicato Five - Mini Cooper
09.07 Blackalicious - Sky is Falling
11.33 Hem - (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes
13.44 Moonpools and Caterpillars - 6 Feet Tall
16.50 Central Living - Everyday (cp remix)

38.52 BOA - Duvet (Acoustic)
44.00 Swingin' Utters - Tell Me Lies
46.07 Cafe Tacuba - Esa Noche

53.20 The Roots (f. Talib Kweli) - Rolling With Heat
57:00 Spoon - Anything You Want
59:12 Si-Sé - Dolemite
64:40 Looper - New York Snow
67:36 The Microphones - The Moon
72:32 Heaven 17 - Fascist Grove Thang
75:56 Bran Van 3000 - Love Cliche
Just a caveat, the indexes are a bit on the funky side. Songs don't start exactly right and that's just wrong.
I, like kaf, needed an excuse to put Aztec Camera and Heaven 17 on a disc.
Email me if you want a copy. (bonus points if you aren't a cd recipient and can tell me where the image is from)
Posted by: eyeballkid on April 3, 2003 06:45 PMTrust me Kaf, this album is nothing like that Buster Pointdexter shite, this is more like Nick Cave territory. "Delia" esp.
Posted by: krimur on April 3, 2003 07:09 PMSure you can have one, ufez! E-mail me at adampsyche@yahoo.com your address. I'll reply with my address.
I guess this would be a good time to bitch about my ex-host, who I registered my main domain with, which is the nameserver for all of my domains (adampsyche, my resume, karen's site, jasper's, etc.). Fuckers messed around with the DNS, and now nothing is available for a few days (maybe Saturday).
Not that anyone noticed, or anything.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 3, 2003 07:16 PMadam, I did notice, as you are one of my everyday reads.
Hey, and I will be happy to send out discs to non-swappers too - I hear it has an inspired tryptic on it *she brags*.
Posted by: tizzie on April 3, 2003 08:02 PMWeird, Adam. I could swear I visited your site on Tuesday and it was kosher.

Also, I'm pretty sure that thar's a Logan's Run type person.

Posted by: ColdChef on April 3, 2003 11:04 PMHideeho. I know I've been quiet around here lately (still incommunicado during the day, and being busy with other stuff - including healing - at night) but I'm still reading everything, dang yas!
I was also a little nervous about both sending out my mixes and posting the playlist, but I've already heard from chico, and if a real, bona-fidee moosician says it's all right then I guess I'll have to assume that that's the case. So, here's my first real "theme" mix cd:
Lyin', Cheatin', No-Good Varmints!
1) Led Zeppelin - Your Time is Gonna Come
2) Nick Lowe - All Men are Liars
3) Bow Wow Wow - Louis Quatorze
4) Hank Williams - Your Cheatin'; Heart

10) Devo - Head Like a Hole
11) Butthole Surfers - Pepper
12) Neneh Cherry - Buddy X
13) Elvis Presley - Trouble/Guitar Man
14) The Henry Rollins Band - Liar
15) Southern Culture on the Skids - Theme from "The Cheaters"
16) Sex Pistols - Liar
~ the redemption suite ~
17) John Lennon - Gimme Some Truth
18) The Call - I Still Believe
19) Morphine - Cure for Pain
I need to preface this with some mitigating words. My previous monkey discs have all been on time and usually doubles. That being said, I'm an asswit. Here is the usual process for me: Gather songs in iTunes, arrange in iTunes for maximum entertainment value, drag and drop the selections into Toast because iTunes does not support my external drive. Toast then puts songs into alphabetical order by artist so I have to go in manually and rearrange the playlist as it was in iTunes. Then Toast burns the discs.
So I thought I did all this, and burned all the discs. Well it turns out I left out the rearranging part. Both discs are in alphabetical order, which is unacceptable. I was just going to go with it and be "bleeding edge" or some kind of John Cage Dada cowboy monkey but I've decided to do another batch. Sorry for the delay, Sharks. Should be just a couple more days.
I have received Mr. Psyche's mix and I will listen to it in the car in the morning. The cover art is wonderful. That is my real weak spot, the damn cover. Over-and-Eep.
Posted by: ana on April 3, 2003 11:44 PMI just recieved mixes from the estimable chicobanggs and mister commish. I'd review them but I've ben running around drinking beer with mister vidiot all night, so i'm a little too tired to listen right now, but I will soon, I assure you and all my mixes will be going out this weekend, when I have more than two nickels to rub together.

OK, I have now received all the mixes--The Jets rock over chicago on promptness, don't we? Tizzie's only arrived last night, so I haven't given it a listen, but from the track list I can tell it's swell (how can you not like an album called Hot Monkey Love?) and I can't wait to pop it in. Krimur sent two-TWO!!!-cds, both of which rock out with their cocks out. Kaibutsu's was the first to arrive, and it was so good it made me realize how soft I've become in my old age. The only bad news is wrt Kafkaesque's mix--I'm not sure if this happened in transit or when Mr. Postman shoehorned my mail into my box, but sadly, his cd arrived in 3 pieces. Very sad. But I can tell that it was a very, very good mix nonetheless. I sucked on the shards in reverie.
Posted by: cowboy_sally on April 4, 2003 09:40 AMI'd like to point out that both Fes and da commish put Neneh Cherry's "Buddy X" on their mixes.
NENEH CHERRY'S BUDDY X!!!

Posted by: Vidiot on April 4, 2003 10:13 AMbtw, listening to the Commish's mix as we speak - excellent, and pertinent. Anyone that likes Neneh Cherry is aces in my book. And Iggy Pop's Candy? Hits you like a elegant bullet shot in 1992 from half a world away. Ka-WHAP.

Prologue:
Draw near, fellow primates, while I spin a yarn about music, alcohol, and cholesterol. When last I gazed upon this glowing box that talks to me from the aether, I beheld the curious sight of “9622 swap CD track lists.” As I read one in particular, jealousy and awe seized me, and I knew what I must do. I must get a copy of this. Alas, I am not in possession of a talking-singing-disc-making machine, and the esteemed Edison Wax Cylinder Co. appears to be defunct. What now?
I.
I fired off a missive into the void, aimed at one Mr. Jonathan McNally, Esquire. Within, I resorted to begging, guile, and outright flattery. Being the craven, venal sort that I am, I dangled the promise of liquid refreshment. It fortuitously found its mark. Being a less venal sort, but a gracious guy nonetheless, Jon agreed to burn me up a copy of the mix. We arranged to meet at a lounge near Union Square, and the game was afoot.
II.
Upon arriving at the agreed-upon spot, I sniffed the air. Something was amiss. I smelled not the byproducts of burning tobacco, but rather the pizza laid out to tempt the denizens of Happy Hour. Ah yes – Czar Bloomberg’s diktat had taken effect, and the aromas of combustibles no longer overwhelmed those of comestibles. I (and my allergies) thank you, Dear Leader. Juche Bloomberg!
As my eyes adjusted, I espied Jon in the corner, raising a bottle of St. Louis’s finest in salute. Upon acquiring my own bottle, we ritually clinked them in the time-honored fashion, and exchanged condolences on the passing of the mighty Edwin Starr, who had departed this earthly plane the day before. (You will be missed. Say it again!)
After handing over the disc that was our ostensible reason to meet, Jon immediately commenced to dishing the dirt (but not, sadly, flinging the poo) on the habitués of MetaFilter/9622/#mefi. (And you ALL should be ashamed of yourselves!) Those wishing that the details not be revealed should post appropriate consideration. This evening was indeed an education in many ways, as you shall surely see if you read on.
III.
After a couple (I dare not be more specific) rounds of Beer (mmm...Beer), and an appreciative listen to “The Guns of Brixton”, Mr. McNally and I arrived at the conclusion that we should seek more substantial sustenance at the nearby chippie. Man cannot live by liquid bread alone, of course. Off we trotted, after a brief pause each for kidney relief, toward the fabled precincts of A Salt & Battery. O happy day!
An entire ten to fifteen minutes had elapsed without beverages of yeasty goodness clutched in our fists, so we fortified ourselves with Boddington’s (your humble correspondent) and Newcastle Brown (Mr. McNally) and fish & chips (yours truly) and chips (Mr. McNally.) Vinegar was liberally applied (to the chips, you sickos), and life was good. Yet a cloud hovered over Paradise, as I knew that the inevitable hour of reckoning approached.
Mindful that our stomach linings had not yet endured enough, Jon suggested that we have dessert. Not even deigning to gaze upon the tempting delights of a deep-fried Cadbury Crème Egg (special for the Paschal feast, no doubt), he pushed his way through the baying hordes and placed an order for two Deep Fried Mars Bars.
IV.
My aorta twitched painfully. Ganglia shriveled. Cilia lay paralyzed. But the assembled hipsters of the East Village were gazing upon me, and not wanting to appear too “fin” (or is it “deck”? Piffle.), I raised the glistening warm thing to my piehole, and took a tentative bite.
As my teeth sliced through the crispety, crunchety, battery outer layer, I encountered a toothsome chocolate-y, nougaty (what the hell is nougat, anyways?), caramel goo. How could the same Highland race that invented haggis come up with this? It was decadent, yet purely Calvinist in its disdain for flashy presentation. Delightful, yet dangerous to have too often. Clutching the complimentary card with cardiologists’ pager numbers on it (offered to patrons with every meal), we staggered off into the night.
V.
We parted company at an outdoor CD stand on St. Mark’s Place. (I decided to wait until later to check my stash by the trash.) Jon was muttering something about a midnight train to Bridgeport, though I fear he was being polite in seeking to avoid being seen with a raving, tipsy Vidiot on a sugar high. After Mr. McNally sprinted off toward the manifold attractions of Grand Central Terminal, I returned my attention to the cut-out bin. (Acquired: Madder Rose, Mighty Sparrow, Thomas Mapfumo & Blacks Unlimited) After which, I made my way to the N train and home.
VI.
Oh yes, the CD itself. What a fucking awesome mix; anyone who will include the Staple Singers, the Fucking Champs, Guided By Voices AND Stiff Little Fingers on the same CD is approaching Hornbyesque levels of mixitude. I’d previously heard the Staples Singers’ cover of “For What It’s Worth” on AM radio in the middle of the night, on a long drive through Darkest Tennessee, and it had made quite an impression. It’s good to have a copy. (And, can anyone NOT do a great job covering this song? From the Candy Skins to Public Enemy, it’s all good.)
The Magnetic Fields song tickled me, and I laughed out loud on the train as we passed under Penn Station. The Equals were quite a discovery as well, and it’s always good to hear the Blasters, an old favorite. However entertaining (and awe-inspiring) the Pancho the Parrot and Arcesia tracks were, however, I doubt that they will hold up under repeated recreational listing. I think I’ll mentally file them under my “Quite Alarming Music” category, right next to my copy of Dr. Jack Kevorkian’s jazz suite “A Very Still Life.” (True.)
Now to purchase an external CD burner, so I can participate in the fun the next time around…
Thus concludeth the epistle. Thanks to jonmc for an entertaining evening of music, food, beer, “food”, and conversation.

(Cool-sounding post-ironic notes and annotations here.) I'm not crazy about the song order. I think I've said this before, but it'll sound just as good if you listen to it on random play.
I've only received the Commish's (yes, really rather excellent - Nick Lowe? Calexico? SCOTS? Oh yeah, we'll get along fine) disc as of today. I'm salivating for jon's and aw's.
cowboy sally?
adampsyche?
krimur?
kaf?
EBK?
I definitely would like copies of your discs, please. And I'm still parsing this thread, so like Frank Stallone, I am far from over. Geezus, none of these sound bad at all.
I have extras of mine for any or all of youse if you want them.
Posted by: Chico on April 4, 2003 01:14 PMQuite the epic telling there, Senor Vidiot. And I thank you for the compliments, generosity and good company. But yes a good time was had by all and sundry. I gave him the quickie version on JonMc Gastrointestinal Tour of New York, full versions of which are available to any of the out of towners who come in for the next get together. Bring bibs and maalox.
And remember that 24-oz can of Bud I got at the bodega? I was down the last quarter of it when the train jarred and created a beer brook on the floor which would have seriously harmed this old dowagers shoes had I not intervened with somebody's abandoned wall street journal. Thankfully the peanuts were unharmed.
I arrived home to a mildly peeved lisa who informed me that I smelled like a brewery. Then she dragged me to the supermarket. As she shopped, I wobbled up and down the aisles in a futile search for pickled eggs and sausage to top of the evening. Sadly the search was futile and I had to settle for vienna sausage and quesadilla rolls.
Tragedy abounds.
You don't need his address.
These are not the droids you're looking for.
Move along.
OMG! MUST HAVE COLDCHEF CD.
Fes - Mostly I am from Georgia, but I lived in St. Louis for a year (the year Still Feel Gone came out, bought that, and everything released subsequently. As a result Son VoltWilco makes my ears hurt - can't imagine one wo the other)
Krimur: Email me your address. I'll fling a cd whicheverwayward.

Listening to it right now. Your mix fucking rulz. I love you so much it hurts me, man. And I mean that in a "mostly I'm not a gay man" way.
Posted by: ColdChef on April 4, 2003 03:17 PMMy fucking host lost a month and a half of my SQL database. Every post in the last month and a half is GONE.
Asshole.
Ah, well. I guess I lost some posts bitching about something or another.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 03:19 PMI'm sorry your site died, Adam.
On the other hand, this crippling affliction of yours doesn't keep you from making a great mix cd. Good stuff sir.

Eyeballkid: Van Halen's Jump covered by Aztec Camera
It has blackened my soul and turned the milk in my fridge sour. That's powerful stuff you're toying with there.
Seriously, Kid. You make a damn fine mix. It's very listenable and rarely jarring. My wife looked at the tracklist and asked me, "Which are the names of the bands and which are the names of the songs?" For the confusion you have caused my wife, I thank you.
Posted by: ColdChef on April 4, 2003 03:28 PMAdam: PLEASE name your host for us, or at least in email. I'm thinking of moving away from dreamhost (after they lost about 100 entries in the peaceblogs database....grrrrrr).
Posted by: jpoulos on April 4, 2003 03:35 PMturbodnshosting.com. they don't do backups before moving their data to another server, and they don't do backups at all.
i want to find a new host. ryan and i have been cohosting a reseller plan together, which i really liked, because we have like 2 gigs of fucking space, and can put in as many domains as we want and manage them with the Web Host Manager application.
i am very pissed at my host and our old registrar. it was a lethal combination of a host that doesn't fucking backup, and a registrar that is impossible to get a hold of, and a host that changes nameserver IPs and makes us chase down our registrar to change them. now that our nameservers are registered with an affiliate of our new host (8 fucking dollars for a year, who can beat that?), this shouldn't happen again, but i am so pissed at the fucker that i want to move anyhow.
i really hate to do so, as ryan and i have invested much into making our current host home, we are spoiled by the amount of space and the price, but at this point, i am very open to getting the fuck out of dodge, and possibly looking for more people with which to host a resellers package. the more the merrier, no?
anyhow, my email should be working now, but cc: adampsyche@yahoo for good measure. i was happy with vervehosting (very happy) but they don't have any reseller option. verve's technical support was great. grar.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 03:47 PMUm, hello. Apropos of MySql data loss: having five dbs running on dreamhost I lived in fear. Now I have dumps mailed to me every single day (this script and a cron job) and I sleep like a baby contented primate.
Posted by: haggis on April 4, 2003 05:27 PMYou know, I was just wondering if there was a script whereby I could donwload a nightly backup.
Is it too much to ask a host to throw a fucking tape in and run it?
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 05:42 PMI hope the Commish posts his track list. The hints sound intriguing.
Posted by: tizzie on April 4, 2003 05:51 PMHost, you're in for some abuse.
Do you know of a script, by any chance that would backup an entire site in the same way?
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 06:02 PMSort of. I have one that makes a tarball and mails it. Some mail gateways will choke if it gets too big. I'll mail what I use to your yahoo address this weekend. I'm at work and can't fling poo at the moment.
Posted by: haggis on April 4, 2003 06:12 PMHey Mars, are you still at the Eastpointe address?
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 4, 2003 07:27 PMThat's powerful stuff you're toying with there.
I've loved that version of Jump for years. I was actually toying with the idea of doing a Covers/Originals cd based on that and the two other covers in my mix. (The 13th Floor Elevators's version of "I Had To Tell You" is far more haunting than the Poi Dog Pondering version.)
And, speaking of covers, Strawberry Switchblade did a pretty cool version of "Jolene." I wonder if I have that anywhere.
Posted by: eyeballkid on April 4, 2003 07:37 PMI like the Pavement "Here" followed by the Tindesticks "Here".
Actually, That song is probably just about my favorite song ever.
That is just one of the many fun and exciting facts you can learn about me. Get to know me!
Posted by: kafkerlesque on April 4, 2003 07:45 PMOut of curiousity, does anyone here recommend any host in particular?
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 07:50 PMI am still in Eastpointe at the Palatial Craddock Estate.
Posted by: Mars Crash on April 4, 2003 08:09 PMRight by Eastside Mall and Regina Catholic Girls School, which I frequented as a young lad.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 4, 2003 09:53 PMYou know, the Site Which Cannot Be Named has its very own fledgeling Direct Connect P2P network set up, which works a treat. I am much the richer for my determined leechage from it recently.
Jealous as I am of all this musical lovin' flying around, I am led to wonder if perhaps we simian brethren might similarly benefit from such a sharing-and-caring technology, with which we could swap tollhouse cookie recipes and photos of our loved ones and other such non-copyrighted materials.
This would please me immensely. But do we have the technology? Or the gumption? Time will tell...just a thought, a mad dream perhaps.
/exuent
Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on April 4, 2003 10:15 PMI would be open to a sharing technology, as long as it didn't involve caring. I am beyond caring.
I'm sure we could arrange something, some private pool of muzak using a file sharing service for our high bandwidth monkey folksies.

Posted by: Mars Crash on April 5, 2003 12:49 AMUh god, really sorry about that - you know the vodka had been added somewhat prodigously before I even turned on the computer -
Posted by: krimur on April 5, 2003 10:50 AMI just loaded up my CD player with Krimur's two rockin' discs and Tizzie's Hot Monkey Love. All was proceeding swimmingly until one of the three discs put a halt to all the random shuffling with some sort of error.
Until we find out who the culprit is...no-one leave the room!
The CDs, by the way, are just perfect.
Posted by: kaf on April 6, 2003 08:30 PMThanks, Mr. K.! Glad ya like it.
I think there might be a problem with Krimur's disc #2 - and I say that not to be critical. I haven't been able to play it on any of 3 players I tried it on... It's like they can't even tell there's a disc inserted. And I'm not techie enough to know why.
Posted by: tizzie on April 6, 2003 09:20 PMThe Swap CD's will be going out in tommorrows mail. For your patience they will be including an extra treat. Because of a lack of ink. I won't have printed notes this time, but they are available online here.
Posted by: jonmc on April 6, 2003 11:06 PMAnd I'm not techie enough to know why.
Is there anything on there from the hit motion picture "Chicago"? Cuz that would do it.
Posted by: jpoulos on April 7, 2003 09:57 AMMy Aiwa CD changer many times will not see a CDRW. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 7, 2003 10:13 AMAnyone who wants a mix, send your address to my e-mail (now working). I should have yours, kaf, but I'll need j-po's and ufez's.
Posted by: adampsyche on April 7, 2003 10:17 AMWell I made most of the disc copies at home, but I think I made a few at work. Since my work computer is a POS, I'm pretty sure that many of the discs never got copied in the first place. (In that case, you may be able to re-use it, so not all is lost.) Please check your discs and let me know if you got a dud, then I will send a new one.
Is there anything on there from the hit motion picture "Chicago"?
oh good lord no
Posted by: krimur on April 7, 2003 12:33 PMYou mean Richard Gere of MOTHMAN fame?
Not many people know that THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES was originally intended to be a musical, but the big Busby-esque production number "He Knows You've Got The Chap-Stick!" brought unintentional guffaws from a test-screening audience.
(It's fun to capitalize THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES for no reason, in the same way that it's fun to shout THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES if you're talking about it in the office (which there's probably no good reason to do anyway))
Posted by: kaf on April 7, 2003 05:14 PMShouldn't the parenthesis-in-parenthesis be brackets? More of a ([ ]) thing¹? or perhaps the ({ }). Or, to be really fancy, you could invite all three: ([{ }]).
¹ I think that we should have more paranthetical notes that include more than one set. It's like footnotes about footnotes*, a trend not explored nearly enough.

WooHoo! I gots me a Craddock Two-Fer when I got home from the Salt Mines today!

Let's see now ... that's ONE from outside my swapset, and ONE from inside my swapset ... Hmm. A few seem to still be on the way.

Did you know that Denny's has/had a desert called "Jumpy Monkey?"
ColdChef's cd is very very very good. Very good.
Posted by: eyeballkid on April 8, 2003 06:39 PMI finally got a chance to listen to Adam's CD and I now regret the time I've spent between the time I got it and now. Oh the wasted hours I could have been listening to it! Alas.
p.s. The cook from Irish Coffee on Mack says to say "Holla!"
Posted by: Mars Crash on April 12, 2003 02:43 PMI received Adam's and Chico's mixes on Friday. So far I've only heard Adam's. It kicks enormous booty. After only one listen it graduated to a place of great esteem: my car cd changer--where it will blare and bother the neighbors for weeks to come. Such a great springtime disc. It's BOMPIN' BABY.
Chico's is next.
Posted by: jpoulos on April 14, 2003 12:19 PMExtra Gratis to ColdChef; I was listening to the thing while at my post, distributing cancer and air pollution to the public, and the disc bought me some conversation with a cute girl! Bonus!
Posted by: kaibutsu on April 14, 2003 02:20 PMI'm sure it was never ColdChef's intention to get the opposite sex to notice you.
Posted by: witchstone on April 14, 2003 02:41 PMDoes that mean that the only ethical recourse is to forward the phone number to the man himself?
Posted by: kaibutsu on April 15, 2003 08:55 AMChico's mix is WILD. It took two or three listens to get into a couple of the tracks, but it was worth the extra effort. Great stuff. I was really impressed by the Shane MacGowan Tony Hightower tune. We monkeys gots talent!
For the love of god. No more labels on CDs! It makes them unplayable in certain drives (and unrippable).
Posted by: ana on April 15, 2003 09:24 PMAnother vote for Cold Chef as the absolute fucking genius of this particular swap.
Posted by: dong resin on April 16, 2003 12:33 AMAnd also for Tizzie, who wisely included Amy Rigby live from the Conan show doing "cynically Yours."
Genius!

As the proud owner of an entire Tony Hightower album, I'll say amen to that. Highly recommended, and not just cos he's a monkey.
Posted by: ufez on April 16, 2003 01:55 AMAww, I feel so loved and shit. Stop. Don't. Stop. Don't Stop.
I totally made this mix up to give the illusion, song by pretty-good song, that I (aye, I) am the Greatest Microstar in Rock and Roll!
But, y'know, I'm glad y'all liked the rest of it too. Now, I've got some listening to do. (aw's just came today! Och, so much new music. You guys rock.)
Oh - [personal to kafka] - I tried to send you a note, but the email bounced, and that was over a week ago and I just plain suck for not following up. Do you still want this (now highly-touted!) thing for your very own? I'm happy, nay eager, to oblige.

Posted by: kafka, esq. on April 17, 2003 12:36 AMHey, it's the comment so nice, you had to make it twice. Nope, I haven't sent yours yet, Kaf.
