Jonmc, chicobangs and vidiot spend an evening on the town in New York. New York is still recovering. Pictures Here. Insanity, drubkenness and injokes abound.

Y'all crack me up -- thanks, boys. :D : raises bloody mary, toasts :
Posted by: roe/metrocake on May 3, 2003 07:37 PMIt's not fair! My horse broke his leg or something!
Looks like you guys had a great time! Fun fun!
Posted by: kafka, esq. on May 3, 2003 08:21 PMHa! Ha! I could so easily imagine - and so deeply regret not - being there! Thanks for the messages - the subliminal ones too.
Truly great fun, you boozers!
*raises his glass of Guinness to Jon, Sam and Chico*
Posted by: Miguel on May 3, 2003 08:25 PMMigs, the cocktail bar we finished of the evening in would've rocked your world.
Posted by: jonmc on May 3, 2003 08:34 PMAlso, we do realize we forgpt some people on the napkins. Please be aware that at that point we were having difficulty remebering our own names. Rest assured you were spoken of (well slurred of) well.
Posted by: jonmc on May 3, 2003 08:35 PManyone want any sexual favours?
not that I wouldn't make that offer, but I wouldn't make it in British english.... We have a gremlin.
I'm movin' to New York†!
†No, not really. But I want to, damn it.
That looked way fun. Actually, it looked like a bit too much fun.
Posted by: eyeballkid on May 4, 2003 12:58 AMI picked the Place and Show. Do I get any favors for that?
Posted by: jpoulos on May 4, 2003 11:41 AMYou do. You just don't get first pick on who you get them from.
Posted by: John-Boy Walton on May 4, 2003 12:56 PMMiguel, you were on our conversation most of the evening, especially once we got to the lounge. It was lovely. (Although logging in this morning and seeing my drubken mug writ large across the front page is a bit... much.)
And I'm kind of surprised that our handwriting was legible enough to be read. (Those napkins were a bit wet when we wrote on 'em. Still, we persisted, because -- well, the love was a-flowin'. Y'all know how it goes.)
And J-po, ufez, I'm SO taking your picks for the Preakness to the OTB. (I figure, if the clown killer can bring the speed, don't let it be said I disagreed.)
Posted by: Chico on May 4, 2003 12:57 PMDid I get a shout-out on napkin #3? I can't read it. Something tells me I wouldn't have been able to read it in person, either.
I skipped the record fair this time around. I was too wino-rich with my last purchases. I had to refinance my mortgage when I got to the Hyped 2 Death booth.
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 4, 2003 01:07 PMDrunks! You're all a bunch of drunks!
Did I mention that I was going to be in New York in May? No dates yet, but soon, my drunk monkeys, soon....
Posted by: readymade on May 4, 2003 01:07 PMYay! I can't wait to meet readymade! Can we call you Queebie? ;)
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 4, 2003 01:11 PMyup you were the first one, and ditto on meeting readymade...
Posted by: jonmc on May 4, 2003 01:22 PMCan we call you Queebie?
I just cancelled my trip.
Just kidding! I think I'll be there around the 18th, but I'm not sure yet. I can't wait to meet me some monkeys!
Why have so many of you pooled up in the New York area--y'all should spread it around a little for the rest of us, dammit!
Posted by: readymade on May 4, 2003 02:51 PMThat looked like a gloriously debaucherous time. I'm so jealous.
Thanks for the sopping napkin shout-out!
Posted by: brittney on May 4, 2003 03:18 PMWhat does the napkin in the pic at the top of this thread say? Is that my name?
Posted by: jpoulos on May 4, 2003 03:27 PMoop -- I think we inadvertently left you off the napkin, J-Po. (Here's a closeup, and there were other napkins as well.) No offense meant -- we were trying to remember all the monkeys, and barely succeeding in remembering our own names. But much drubken love was expressed to all monkeys, including the ones not specifically mentioned.
Posted by: Vidiot on May 4, 2003 03:33 PMTawk amongst ya'selves ... I'll give you a topic:
Chicobangs has neither Chico nor Bangs.
Discuss.
perhaps, but I'm a man, so hence that picture is entitled Chico & The Man.
Posted by: jonmc on May 4, 2003 04:14 PM'sright, Jon, mang. Joo tell he!
Besides, I might be light on Bangs, but there was so much Chico in the room (the attitude, not my Jabbaesque body mass), that the people at the next table had to move. (Though that might have been us being moist and garrulous. So?)
And whatnot, don't be discouraged; the man, he ain't so hard to understand.
Posted by: Chico Feliciano on May 4, 2003 04:34 PM"moist and garrulous" would be a most excellent name for a blog. Or an album title. (Not a band, because people'd think it was a duo, like a sweatier version of Ferrante & Teicher.)
Posted by: Vidiot on May 4, 2003 04:36 PMPS - I just got back from the record fair. It was stellar. I'm thinking of going back and blowing the rest of my allowance. Does anybody need anything?
(I got a couple of the Skynyrd pens. They're as lurid as you'd hope.)
Posted by: Chico on May 4, 2003 04:37 PMno offense taken, of course. i just couldn't tell what it said.
so isn't I-ball-keed coming to NYC next month? I declare a mini-meetup.
Posted by: jpoulos on May 4, 2003 05:25 PMI'm actually going to be there the first week of June. 4-8th, I believe.
*wonders what one has to do to get a napkin shout-out ;)*
Posted by: eyeballkid on May 4, 2003 07:15 PMYou can have any number of sober napkin shoutouts. Drubk ones, on the other hand, are pretty much luck of the draw. ;-)
Posted by: Vidiot on May 4, 2003 07:42 PMBut all the out of towners will have their flights booked through these guys...
Posted by: jonmc on May 5, 2003 09:19 AMThose pictures are great!
The answer is obvious. We must have mutiple meetups while each of our monkey friends are in town.
Posted by: witchstone on May 5, 2003 09:49 AMBut much drubken love was expressed to all monkeys, including the ones not specifically mentioned.
Yeah, right!
*sulks*
Posted by: Fes on May 5, 2003 10:41 AMThe answer is obvious. We must have mutiple meetups while each of our monkey friends are in town.
Close. I think it's even more obvious that we must have multiple naked meetups while each of our monkey friends are in town.
Posted by: jpoulos on May 5, 2003 11:02 AMI could have sworn that I wrote "multiple naked sweaty orgy meetups" but for some reason it didn't show up that way.
Posted by: witchstone on May 5, 2003 11:07 AM9622.net:"Multiple naked sweaty" is assumed in all comments.
Oooh yeah.
Y'know, I love this site, but if there's one thing I'd change about it, it would be more sex among its members. I mean, except for (I assume) adam and aw, are any of us gettin' it on with each other?
Posted by: jpoulos on May 5, 2003 11:25 AMI did have sex with the pastrami sandwich jon posted.
Twice.
Posted by: tizzie on May 5, 2003 11:29 AMthanks fer the shout out. damn, I need to get out of this state.
Posted by: tj on May 5, 2003 11:29 AMTizzie, don't you dare spill the--oh, pastrami sandwich. Right.
Posted by: witchstone on May 5, 2003 11:30 AMAnd here I am thinkin' they tangy zip was from Miracle Whip...
are any of us gettin' it on with each other?
Does getting it on with yourself count?
Otherwise only in my dreams. And even there, I usually get turned down.
Posted by: jonmc on May 5, 2003 11:36 AMOnce again, I'm totally denied any getting-it-on opportunities by geographical considerations. That is, unless both Kaibutsu and I both switch teams and start getting it on with each other, which seems remote in light of the facts that (a) I've known since I was kid that I liked girls, (b) I can't even get him to let me take him out to lunch.
*memo to self: move to NYC. Then turn on the charm, Fessy my boy!

*looks across Atalantic, crosses arms, pouts*
Hmph.
*starts plotting to lure Migs, Schweppes Girl, & CQ to the Eternal City*

I think you both could "take one for the team", don't you?
Posted by: jpoulos on May 5, 2003 12:46 PMI'm going to try all the other options first, just to be thorough.
Posted by: Fes on May 5, 2003 01:06 PMI wanna watch fes and kaibutsu take one for the team.
Gotta play football for the coach.
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 5, 2003 01:50 PM*starts plotting to lure Migs, Schweppes Girl, & CQ to the Eternal City*
A foursome in Rome? Make sure you post the pictures.
Posted by: Vidiot on May 5, 2003 01:58 PMOh yes. If you can't send plane fare, then pictures are required.
And Fes, you hold out as long as you can, and the NYC posse'll leave the light on for you.
(Shit. This world just ain't small enough, is it?)
(Hey jon, Vidiot, here's the lost watering hole from Friday night. PS'd by request, because I actually got up early this morning for once.)
Posted by: Chico on May 5, 2003 02:20 PMThe Hairy Monkey! Oh, nirvana. I can only dream of such places.
Posted by: tizzie on May 5, 2003 03:11 PMOh, alright, here's another view of the place. Still, the possibilities of the place beckoned to us like some kind of special simian shangri-la, or something.
Also, as has been noted before, the blurriness of the photo was not contrived. That's how it looked to us at that hour.
Posted by: Chico on May 5, 2003 03:22 PMOh, duh. I'm provincial and gullible!
Golly gee, when can I come t' visit y'all in the Big City!?!
Posted by: tizzie on May 5, 2003 03:31 PMFor you, sweetheart, the city is always open. And the one thing we cityfolk can guarantee is a good time.
Posted by: Chico on May 5, 2003 03:57 PMThanks for sharing that with us guyz, your drubk tour looked more than just fun.
Posted by: Thomcatspike on May 5, 2003 03:59 PMAt the last WFMU record fair (this winter?) I found an ultra-rare 808 State DJ promo whitelabel (Pacific 212 - 6 edits, 3 of which I had never heard of) and although I know I overpaid, I'm happy I did :)
Posted by: Gen on May 8, 2003 05:43 AMGood find, gen. Grrrr. ;)
When will someone start the "best find at the record fair/second-hand shop" thread we've all been waiting for?
Posted by: Miguel on May 8, 2003 08:38 AMI paid $27 for a used CD single once. Used. Single. But I really wanted this one mix of Lightning Man by Nitzer Ebb.
It also was one of those cute small CDs.
Posted by: witchstone on May 8, 2003 08:55 AMAnd if you ever get tired of it, witchy, you could probably sell it back to the band for what you paid for it.
I've managed to find and buy back almost the entire print run of my first CD, Whitman Mayo's Grandnephew Sings The Songs of Diane Warren. Damn thing shipped platinum in '93.
I'm pretty much broke. But the world is a better place, trust me.
Posted by: Chico on May 8, 2003 10:15 AMI paid $40 for a used album once. A vinyl original of this gem. Worth every penny. If I ever find a copy of The Detroit-Memphis Experiment, the aforementioned Mitch Ryder's collaboration with Booker T & The MG's, I'd pay about the same.
Most of my truly rare stuff is on mp3, cause in the end I'm more interested in the music itself, than the physical artifact. Stuff I got there is so rare, the people playing it haven't heard it.
Posted by: jonmc on May 8, 2003 10:42 AMI once paid 45$ for "metal box" by PiL because it came in a small round tin, rather than a normal jewel case.
It corroded to useless in about a year.
Posted by: dong resin on May 8, 2003 10:47 AMOh god, please don't get me started on this topic. I've got a full nerd-on raging.
OK, best find in a thrift store? A German import of Desmond Dekker's Israelites for a quarter, mint condition.
At the now-defunct Rhino Records in Albany I got an original pressing of this Bonzo Dog Band record and and ultrarare pressing of 7 Seconds' "Walk Together, Rock Together."
Actually, Mr._sally and I have a number of rare punk/hardcore albums that we hope will serve as our nest egg when our 401Ks go tits up.
Um, also I have original copies of "Sticky Fingers" and "His Majesty's Satanic Request."
The most I ever paid for a record I didn't even really want to listen to was damn near $30 for a "Nudie Sings Country Favorites." I think it was a vanity pressing. I just wanted the accompanying picture book.
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 8, 2003 11:13 AMIt's not a record but it's still an interesting find, what I'm about to tell you about. Roughly four years back, I was buying ciggarettes in a bodega on the stretch of North Avenue in Bridgeport where it goes from proletariat straight into lumpen. In a pile of wrapped magazines, I found the first issue of Easyriders, the famed "biker lifestyle" magazine. I brought it to the counter and the idiot clerk saw the "75¢" on the cover and that's what he charged me. No tattooed boob flashing or weapons brandishing. Remarkably tame by todays standards. It did feature an interview with a remakably young looking Elvin Bishop rhapsodizing about his new hog.
Posted by: jonmc on May 8, 2003 11:36 AMElvin Bishop!
I paid $50 for a Dire Straits bootleg once. (Yes, I am a dork...but I loves the Knopfler.)
I don't really have much rare music -- just a hell of a lot of it. (though I'm sure my collection is humbled in the face of Jon's.)
I think the thrift-store music purchase that has given me the most joy was a reeeeeeally bad Euro-techno cover of the Connells' "'74-'75" (diva voice, around 125 bpm) that I found in a pound store in Dublin.
Posted by: Vidiot on May 8, 2003 03:48 PMover 800 cds here. probably a drop in the pool of the collections of other monkeys here.
Posted by: witchstone on May 8, 2003 04:44 PMWow, Vidiot, I love Dire Straits too, but for $50 I would really expect them to come over to my house and detail my car.
Witchstone, my cd collection could fit in your cd collection's left shoe. Thank gawd for a good public radio station!
Posted by: tizzie on May 8, 2003 04:58 PMRoughly 1000 CD's, 20 Box Sets, about 450 LP's, maybe 50 45's, 400+ albums on cassette(including dubs & mixes) and 5500 mp3's.
I should actually count it. But those numbers are about right.
Posted by: jonmc on May 8, 2003 04:58 PMA note about posting images:
We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys
wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone
