How many bands and musicians are abusively using our names? Lots of them! Take a butcher's at the gall of Uncle Fester and Miguel Migs. Google for your homonyms and doppelgangers now!
Let loose your rage!
Posted by Miguel at May 15, 2003 08:56 PMOoooh. Creepy. They've got their doppelganglia on us and whatnot. Yuck.
Posted by: Mars Crash on May 15, 2003 09:33 PMI can't believe this bastard Marcel Duchamp has nicked my name. What the hell? Is nothing sacred?

Ha ha, readymade! And "Bon Jovi" Mars Crash!
Is anyone out there waiting for the eclipse of the moon? Only a few minutes now...
Posted by: Miguel on May 15, 2003 09:57 PMI have actually done this before, migs, and I always end up picturing the Yateley & Hawley Bridge Club as a lovely country establishment right out of Grantleigh Manor, or Dibley perhaps, where all the locals gather each Wednesday and Friday evening to play a hand or two of bridge and discuss the Structural Classification of YhbC-like, C-terminal domain Proteins.
Posted by: yhbc on May 15, 2003 10:17 PMAck. Just people who are scary into TV or video games. But using my real name for an egosurf shows that I'm the South Dakota Deputy Commissioner of Insurance AND an Australian windsurfing champion. What more could you want?
Posted by: Vidiot on May 15, 2003 10:31 PMFeh. I'm the president of the National Basketball Development League. So there.
Posted by: yhbc on May 15, 2003 10:59 PMYou are cordially invited to compose a face to go with your doppelgangerooni. Or do ColdChef's whaley face.
Now if only I could figure out how to post a link to my creations...
Hope administrators!
Posted by: Miguel on May 16, 2003 07:46 AMOh - and here are the hats to go with them. Note the fetching Fez!
Posted by: Miguel on May 16, 2003 07:52 AMI did find a recipe for "Aunt Tizzie's Chocolate Zephyrs." That sounds like a good Polka band name.
Posted by: tizzie on May 16, 2003 09:27 AMGeez, any other computer-crashing links you wanna post, Miguel? I got all day. ;-)
I actualy stole my moniker from Sally Timms, a delightful and talented performer who also has a really nice pair of hooters. Occasionally I get emails from obscure rock stars and whatnot thinking I'm her. If I could *feel guilt*, I certainly would about that.
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 16, 2003 09:40 AMThere are too many UncleFes's out there. Hell, on Yahoo, I have to go by unclefes9 - there being at least 8 others. So, I've devoted my online life to making sure that, as far as the digial world goes, I am THE Uncle Fester. All others? Poseur scum.
I figure this guy is my main competition. Shitty British punk bands? No problem :)
Posted by: Fes on May 16, 2003 10:08 AMfes, I find it odd that you'd consider a eunuch your main competition. is there something you'd like to tell us?
Posted by: cowboy_sally on May 16, 2003 10:20 AMNo! I just got out of the pool! *sobs*
It's not about his eunuchness, it's about his undeniable Festerian lovableness and smoochability. That's where the rubber meets the road, as far as who is lauded as Festerius Primus Digitalis.
Posted by: Fes on May 16, 2003 10:37 AMYe Gods. Someone at the Onion has it in for me!
I actually showed a complete lack of creativity when choosing my moniker, although at the second mefi meetup at least 8 people asked me what "MC" stood for. (just my name). I was initially gonna pick buddy_bradley for my name, after a comic character I identify with(and resemble)but for some reason I didn't.
Posted by: jonmc on May 16, 2003 10:42 AMI've googled adampsyche before, but all I get is myself.
Am I alone out there? Other psyches speak up, dammit!
Posted by: adampsyche on May 16, 2003 11:08 AMTechnically, couldn't you call Jasper "child psyche"?
I'm just sayin...
Posted by: jonmc on May 16, 2003 11:57 AMI wouldn't know anything at all about this sort of thing.
Posted by: brittney on May 16, 2003 12:05 PMNo one dares dopplegang the Mighty Tay-Hota! That, and well, who would bother?
Posted by: The Mighty Tay-Hota on May 16, 2003 12:53 PMTangentially related: I don't know how I missed it on The Blue, but when I Googled my real name in a fit of workplace boredom last week I realized I was the first person to be called out by that Cornell University dipshit.
I was so proud.
Posted by: Cyrano on May 16, 2003 01:29 PMTechnically, couldn't you call Jasper "child psyche"?
Possibly, but he is an evil genius.
Posted by: adampsyche on May 16, 2003 01:30 PMno, if he's going to be a proper sidekick doesn' it have to be 'kid psyche' or 'psychekid'?
Posted by: tj on May 16, 2003 01:41 PMhomonyms could not find mine googled, but saw a pro moto cross guy who goes by thomcatspike saw it about 6 months ago on an x game.
Posted by: Thomcatspike on May 16, 2003 02:01 PMCyrano...that's really, really cool. His response to you was funny, too.
Posted by: ColdChef on May 16, 2003 02:19 PMWhen I google my real name I don't turn up till page 5, but I'm on page two of tizzies. That tells me something, but I'm not sure exactly what.
Good news! The pup has found a home. We are dropping him off there tonite. Honestly, I've gotten so attached that I'm going to miss him - the other dogs won't. He uses their hind legs for chew toys.
Posted by: tizzie on May 16, 2003 02:23 PMAh, would that we all could be called out by such a dipshit. Good for you!
I remember that guy's first tirade that ended up in the Blue; did he get a second billing? Because that's crossing over from "interesting webby thing" to "far too much exposure for a mysogynist attention seeker."

Yeah, he got a second go here.
The weird part was at first I got all indignant because I didn't remember making the comment. Then I went back and checked and did a "huh, I guess I did..." When I saw the date and time and realized I was surely drunk it made a bit more sense.
Posted by: Cyrano on May 16, 2003 02:40 PMI am first for both my nickname and my real name (though I don't show up with my full given name). I am doppelgangerless. So much for using the Evil Twin defense.
Posted by: romakimmy on May 16, 2003 02:54 PMBy the way, all, is there a MeFi or 9622 thing happening in NY soon? People keep mentioning coming here; worried that I'm missing something...again...
Posted by: metrocake on May 16, 2003 03:41 PMThere isn't any hard, cold plans yet, but I'm visiting NY and we're speculatively planning a little schizznitz on the 23rd. Also, EBK is coming to NY soon after me (in June?).
I'm kind of waiting on the return of Witchstone, cause she's smart and has ideas and stuff, unlike me who is dumb and a tourist, and knows nuthin'. But I was thinking of starting the "where to go in NYC on the 23rd" thread soon. Unless some of you locals got a good idea already!
Holy crap! That's in a week!

There are a zillion 'aine's out there, but I'm the only one who shows up in a Google search for my name (big surprise. Like "Stibor" is so common") and the only "aine42" who shows up.
So... am I upset by no dopplegangers, or encouraged?
And I'm with Roe -- when's the June MeFi/9622 whing-ding happening. Those of us who would need airline tickets could use a little warning, y'know.
Posted by: aine42 on May 16, 2003 08:28 PMOh, we can show you a good time, readymade. F'r instance, Mr. Jonmc and Ms. Cowboy_Sally and I met over drinks in the East Village tonight, and then Jon and I went carousing (and drinking, and eating various belly-bombing foodstuffs...par for the course, I know.) Pictures coming tomorrow.
I believe Mr. EBK will be coming on June 3rd. Come play with us!
Posted by: Vidiot on May 16, 2003 11:59 PMIf you decided to search for Ufez on google, you'd find a whole lotta me and some wierd Eastern European language stuff. I think they want books.
Posted by: ufez on May 17, 2003 03:18 AMThere's a bunnyfire out there (actually a Bunnyfire creator) who is much crazier than I am. And a lot more bipolar.
*shudders*
Posted by: b******** on May 17, 2003 12:41 PMactualy a Bunnyfire creator...
Do you mean this guy sets rabbits on fire?
He might as well. He set the character up with some weird dude called "stoneflower". What irritates me is he claims to have come up with the name first-highly unlikely since it was only until recently his site popped up on Google.
(Yes, I check frequently and you don't blame me.)
I thought it was some kind of weird dungeons-and-dragons game at first. ick.
Posted by: b******** on May 17, 2003 02:24 PMNo doppelganger nor paso doble here.
Of course if you seperate it into 2 words, well, alice is a popular name with foot fetish sites.
When I searched my real name, there was someone in management at a NJ library, funny thing is, my mother was a librarian! Now what the hell does that mean?
Do I have a bastard brother with the same name that followed moms in her career footsteps?
Is it a story of 2 peters? Oh, never mind.....
Posted by: alicesshoe on May 17, 2003 11:34 PMLooks like I'm the only dejah420 out there. I also seem to be the only spiderfarmer. Yay me! heh.
Posted by: Dejah420 on May 18, 2003 05:24 PMCheck this out: "Ring our bell and ReadyMade will land on your front lawn within six to eight weeks."
And here I thought we had to promise to go through the effort of a whole night of bacchanalia and sailors and seafood and floppy hats.
Okay, okay, it wasn't so much a promise as a really good reason. Still. A bell? That's gotta be a metaphor.
Posted by: Chico on May 26, 2003 08:42 PMSome one used the word Festerius on this site, Festerius Primus Digitalis... What does this mean? Please don't use that word again, as it summons me. Thank you.
Posted by: Festerius on August 12, 2003 06:42 AMFesterius Primus Digitalis
Sounds like a dandruff shampoo.
Posted by: kaf on August 12, 2003 11:07 AMbut you just did. a few times. Festerius, you should be more careful about that.

That's mighty big talk, young un.
Posted by: tizzie on August 12, 2003 11:14 AM"That's mighty big talk, young un."
Damn it... Why do you people keep bringing me here? You must be very old to call me young... What is this place any ways?
Posted by: Festerius on September 8, 2003 03:16 AMI'm beginning to see the point of closing threads "for archival purposes" after 30 days.
Posted by: Miguel on April 17, 2004 12:07 AMI love it how "Status: Civilization" by Robert Sheckley apparently somehow relates to gay porn.
Posted by: Vidiot on April 18, 2004 02:58 PMHello, again. What ever happened to the Federal Monicker Protection Scheme any ways?
