He's suave, he's phat, he's debonair,
He wears red socks without a care,
We almost missed it but we wouldn't dare!
It's Kafkaesque's anniversaire! Posted by tizzie at November 12, 2003 07:07 PM
Quick! You've got hours before midnite California time. Raise a glass - to Kafkaesque!
Find somebody like ColdChef to say something witty.
Posted by: tizzie on November 12, 2003 07:10 PMYou, I just know will have a happy birthday, dear Kaf!
May all your days shine - with sunshine, moonshine and shiny things and smiles all round. And a welcome dose of doom whenever appropriate, just to keep a balance.
*raises his Moscow Mule (lovely drink; tried it for the first time about 10 minutes ago, in honour of your birthday)*

My glass is tipped high in salute, despite the fact that it's only filled with spiced cider. May there not be too many exploding bolts today.
Three cheers!
Posted by: readymade on November 12, 2003 11:14 PMHappy Birthday, kaf!
No joke here. Just a simple birthday greeting. Move on.
No, really! That's all I wanted to say. Scroll down now. Lots of funny stuff down below.
Look, are you still here?
Happy Birthday To Youse, You Godzilla (or at least Gamera) of Wit, you.
Posted by: jonmc on November 12, 2003 11:44 PMHappy birthday, and all that jazz.
Crash, what the *fuck* was that?
Posted by: notsnot on November 13, 2003 12:51 AMI'm on my fifth one of these

in honour of Kaf's bday (well, and also the fact that I really like beer a lot, and I don't have a class to teach until like 25 hours from now).
Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on November 13, 2003 06:14 AMStavros, are you doing that snappy little dance step as well?
Posted by: tizzie on November 13, 2003 06:40 AMHappy Birthday Stranger.
By the way. Stop. I figured out how to burn a proper CD. Stop. Will be sending those out on Saturday. Stop.
Posted by: Valerie on November 13, 2003 07:21 AMI do #4 when Squirts Attack, as they have to my endless chagrin with clocklike regularity for decades now, Tiz. Which is too much information, I know.
Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on November 13, 2003 07:55 AMBirthday Squirts! (see also, tubgirl.jpg)
Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on November 13, 2003 08:51 AMOr not, if you value the unsulliedness of your vizzies.
Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on November 13, 2003 08:52 AMI practiced in the shower this morning (the dance step! the dance step!)
Posted by: tizzie on November 13, 2003 09:23 AMIf I didn't have a skull-crushing hangover I'd be raising a glass to you right now, kafmeister general.
Happy B-day.
Posted by: Cyrano on November 13, 2003 10:53 AMHappy birthday dude! I hear it snowed in SoCal for you!
Posted by: eyeballkid on November 13, 2003 10:54 AMOh happy days, mistah kaf.
Hope you got something you love.

Thanks, monkeypeople.
Winter Welcome was imbibed, youth was wept for, vindaloo, indeed, was eaten.
Posted by: kaf on November 13, 2003 11:46 AMDid it snow? I know there was some craziness with the lightning and hail...
Posted by: kaf on November 13, 2003 11:47 AMIt was hail. This morning, however, we can pretend it's snow.

And there was that's gubernatorial election. That was kinda freaky too. Not that you need me to remind you.
As if things were so normal here.
Posted by: tizzie on November 13, 2003 12:08 PM"Crash, what the *fuck* was that?"
I don't know, it just turned up on a Google image search for "kafka", and it looked so appropriate...
Posted by: Crash on November 13, 2003 02:13 PMAhem, let's try that again, this time with html that works:
t even link to his own site! Wadda doofus!">
Happy yesterday, Kaf.
Posted by: arto on November 14, 2003 04:28 AMjaysus, you spend two days doing *actual work* and you miss a monkey's birfday. Belated best wishes!
Posted by: c_s on November 14, 2003 10:00 AMI like the snappy "c_s." It's so cool, so efficient and so mysterious.
I think I'm going to name the kid c_s. He doesn't need to know that he's named after someone named "Sally."
Posted by: readymade on November 14, 2003 12:15 PMReadymade, be sure you read this tale of debauchery before you finalize that decision.
Actually, after I read it, I wanted c_s to be MY name!
Posted by: tizzie on November 14, 2003 12:34 PMHappy Birthday Kaf. Being late to the gig, what gifts did you get?
Posted by: thomcatspike on November 14, 2003 01:16 PMHappy Birthday Kaf. Being late to the gig, what gifts did you get?
Posted by: thomcatspike on November 14, 2003 01:16 PMGifts? Some meditation books, a Bayern Munich jersey, couple of Pärt CDs, and the new edition of my beloved TimeOut Film Guide. I have not gotten to the ties and aftershave stage of male gift receiving yet, happily.
Posted by: kaf on November 14, 2003 01:19 PMa Bayern Munich jersey
BUNDESLIGA!!!! Kaiserslautern!
Got to love the German footy. Oh, and nobody but me cares, but the Dallas Burn are actually going to be playing in Dallas again next year, instead of the suburb 45 minutes away. Now if only they could win some games...
Posted by: ufez on November 14, 2003 02:05 PMI care, Ufez. I care.
I just got tix for the MLS Cup in a couple of weeks. Seems a bit unfair that the semis are a one-off game, but I'm an Earthquakes fan, so I can't complain about them having an unfair home advantage. Also, they better make the Cup. I don't want to have to root for the Revs or something.
Also, I find it disturbing and yet strangely reassuring that the same English guy has been doing the Bundesliga commentary since I was about 5.
Posted by: kaf on November 14, 2003 02:11 PMIn other news, I finally got my permanent dental brige installed yesterday. I have had a gap in that spot for so long that my tongue keeps poking at it like "what the hell's that??" plus it's porcelain fused on metal so it feels kinda like I have a little teapot fused to my gums.
Posted by: jonmc on November 14, 2003 03:32 PMAm I the only one that looks at this thread and starts chanting:
Hey, Hey, Mr. K
How many kids did you kill today?
Congrats on the MLS cup tickets, kaf. Hope it's a good show. Then again, though, screw you for having a team that actually made the playoffs. You would think it wouldn't be too much to ask to just not finish dead ass last in the conference.
Posted by: ufez on November 14, 2003 04:58 PMI have not gotten to the ties and aftershave stage of male gift receiving yet, happily.
You live in Cali:P
Shouldn't the MLS cup involve baseball?
You know, Lou Gehrig and all that?
Posted by: arto on November 15, 2003 05:37 AMI live!
Kaf, my friend: Happy Birthday!
Human nature is developed
By profound serenity and lightness;
Virtue is developed
By harmonious joy
And open selflessness.
When externals do not
Confuse you inwardly,
Your nature finds the condition
That suits it;
When your nature does not
Disturb harmony,
Virtue rests in its place.
- Huai-nan-tzu
May your wisdom ever exceed your years, and may each bitterly envy the extent of your good fortune.
Posted by: Fes on November 17, 2003 12:06 AMI love the monkey in the red socks. For some strange reason he reminds me of a sock monkey.
