January 19, 2004 : Be like us

Singaporeans are urged to act like monkeys

Posted by tizzie at January 19, 2004 08:07 AM

People have said these things about that :

And then there's this True Confession....

Posted by: tizzie on January 19, 2004 10:43 AM

Good lord, Tiz! Confessing is so self-indulgent - the confessor feels better, everyone else feels worse. Some things (and I think this "grooming" confession qualifies) ought to be taken to the grave.

Was just eyeballing the Mefi LA meetup page over at the Gray. Pitiful! One picture - ONE! Notsnot and I burn a whole roll of film at LUNCH, for chrissakes. Second: no shoutouts! Evidently, the left coast is populated by barbarians. Lastly: neither Kaf nor Witchy. Which only goes toward proving my assertion from the second point.

I'm still disappointed in the results of the last Swap, to the extent that I shall lay my Swapinistrator's head on the block for any and all to chop. I have failed you - whoever wishes may take the mantle. By my calcualtions, the Winter Swap should take place someting around mid-February or so - A Valentine's Day Swap? And I feel I should again give ana a BIG thank you for sending me not only the Luomo CD, but FOUR others of surpassing quality! Thanks, man. Listening to Mix 1 as I type.

In a bit of poetic justice, my fitness resolutions ran smack into my aging corpus, resulting in a nicely wrenched back over the weekend. Damnable flesh! Gin and Aleve only just dulled the pain too. I finished the baby's room, though. Damnable flesh, be damned thyself, for the will remains the greater!

It's fucking cold here. And I've gone to coming in to the office on Eastern time (an hour earlier).

Where the hell has everyone been lately?

/grumpy old man

Posted by: Fes on January 19, 2004 11:25 AM

Since it looks like getting you the first Luomo record would mean a trip to the storage unit, I recommend that you just buy the damn thing.
I owe my absence to readjusting to the new schedule of my final semester in school, being away for almost three weeks, beginning a job search, planning a wedding, and scoping out for a new place to live. That's all.

Posted by: ana on January 19, 2004 01:58 PM

Wedding? Who, what, when and where?

Pshaw! You were not at fault, Swapmeister. In fact, I praise you to the skies!

I am looking forward to the next one though, because I have goodies to send in my packages! Hehehee! EVERYbody is going to want to be in MY group.

Where the hell has everyone been lately?

Yeah! It's time to beam out the multi-signal. A 9622 is not just for Christmas. You are required by law to leave, at the very least, a telegraphic comment every other day and a long confessional, embarrassing disclosure every week.

Damn laid-back Californians!

Posted by: Miguel on January 19, 2004 03:51 PM

*rubs hands together gleefully, settles in, waits for Miguel's embarrassing disclosure*

Posted by: Vidiot on January 19, 2004 04:16 PM

Miguel! Please send me your snail-mail address. I will send you goodies!

That goes for everybody, really. I am feeling gifty.

Posted by: tizzie on January 19, 2004 04:34 PM

what does he like?

Posted by: seLLuL on January 19, 2004 05:50 PM

I like Tizzie - and she knows it. I hope. By now. But there's no rush.

Posted by: Miguel on January 19, 2004 08:29 PM

Awwww, you are so kind!

And Miguel, I have always liked Teresa Heinz Kerry, even before I knew she spoke Portuguese! When I worked for Heinz, she was active in their foundation, and she impressed me.

Posted by: tizzie on January 20, 2004 08:44 AM

Mine.

Posted by: ana on January 20, 2004 11:33 AM

Gifty is nifty.

Day one of my new job (with access! Hel-lo world!), and my first unsupervised duty is to send a homing signal to you, my fellow simianauts.

Now, ana, what's this about a wedding? Who's taking you off the market? Do tell. And what are Luomo like? (From the name alone, I'm imagining Weezer doing Ladysmith Black Mambazo covers. Or vice versa.)

Today is the birthday of my mother, my husband, and my boss. Do we have any zodiac types among us? Can anyone tell me what that means (besides a Hallmark cluster-f*ck)?

Posted by: tizzie on January 20, 2004 05:49 PM

It's H*llm*rk clusterfuck, if you don't mind.

Posted by: liam on January 20, 2004 05:58 PM

Wow, liam and walrus in the same week. All we need now is for Marquis to show up (and send me more swap CDs, since I still listen to his on a bi-weekly basis 1.5 years later).

And Chico's back with a desk job. Huzzahs all around!

(and this counts for my comment of the week, migs :) )

Posted by: ufez on January 20, 2004 11:35 PM

Wait, tiz, this is a riddle, right? Like, they're all the same person?

No?

Posted by: Chico on January 21, 2004 09:37 AM

NO, definitely not! Absolutely certainly not.

Posted by: tizzie on January 21, 2004 10:47 AM

Although they all wear the same size hat. That could be a clue.

Posted by: tizzie on January 21, 2004 10:49 AM

And a few days ago was someone else's birthday as well.

Congratulations readymade and family!

Posted by: Vidiot on January 21, 2004 12:11 PM

The baby! He is here! Huzzzah!

Best wishes to Mom, Dad, and Milo Readymade!

Posted by: tizzie on January 21, 2004 12:38 PM

Ooh, it's the kind of happy childbirth I like. You know, as opposed to those where father winds up with various medical instruments in unholy places and claw marks around his eyes and inner thighs.

Congrats readymade!

Posted by: ufez on January 21, 2004 01:17 PM

He'll always be Rufus to me.....

Posted by: tj on January 21, 2004 01:43 PM

Hello Milo and congratulations to Ms and Mr Readymade.

A close friend of mine was due to give birth to her first child the very same day as readymade. In the event, her little girl Grace came out 22 hours before Mr Milo, here on the other coast. Perhaps one day they'll meet in a bus station in Kansas, or on Mars. Or at least in astronaut training camp.

Posted by: liam on January 21, 2004 02:03 PM

I should add that both Milo and Grace are in very sleek shape; most newborns of my acquaintance look like they've just gone three rounds with a larger, better-trained baby.

Posted by: liam on January 21, 2004 02:09 PM

9622.net: A larger, better-trained baby.

Posted by: Vidiot on January 21, 2004 02:19 PM

I offer these words of wisdom to the newborns: Stick and move, stick and move.

Posted by: tj on January 21, 2004 03:24 PM

Welcome to the world, Mini Monkey Milo.

Posted by: jonmc on January 21, 2004 04:00 PM

YAY!

The progeny is arriving and will soon take over!

My two daughters were 23 today - tall, strapping, beautiful healthy women - and they were born at 28 weeks, weighed less than a kilo and measured 30 centimetres.

Congratulations, readymade and Milo!

Much love, Grace!

Posted by: Miguel on January 21, 2004 04:04 PM

My baby will be 20 one week from Saturday (my birthday too!) His older brother is now 22.

Miguel, you and I are much to young to have such mature offspring!

Posted by: tizzie on January 21, 2004 04:54 PM

That's awesometastical! Welcome to the world, Milo X. And many many congrats, Readymade!

Wow! Thanks, monkey brethren and sistren! I'm pretty exhausted as you might imagine, and I'm trying to figure out where the carburator is, but we're all good and glad to introduce a new primate to the mix.

Today is a big day: his first trip to the doctor! Hold your breath for us that we can figure out the straps in the car seat without having a nervous breakdown. Thanks for all your good wishes.

And happy birthday, Miguel's daughters!

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
