Lupo, Lupo's sister, Eyeball and myself had a merry few beers and a saunter around the Santa Monica Promenade last night.
L to R: kaf, lupo, eyeball.
A good time and conversation was had by all. Lupo is a great guy, as is Mr. Ball. We were as old friends.
Posted by kafkaesque at February 12, 2004 08:54 PMJust exactly where is Lupo's right hand, huh?
Perverts.
Posted by: Crash on February 12, 2004 09:02 PMI'd like to. March 23rd and 24th at the Henry Fonda?
Posted by: eyeballkid on February 12, 2004 09:20 PMAw...
It does a fellow's heart good, it does, to see the three of you together, looking so happy.
What a great photograph, Sister Lupo! Thank you!
Posted by: Miguel on February 12, 2004 09:20 PMYeah, that's the dates. How come they never have shows on a freakin' weekend? I'm old and stuff.
The last show I saw there was Tindersticks on a Tuesday or something. I got home at 1 in the morning.
Posted by: kaf on February 12, 2004 09:33 PMThey have freebaseable ovaltine now, kaf.
So, EBK and Lupo have visited us Big Apple monkeys...when you comin' to Gotham, daddy-o?
Posted by: jonmc on February 12, 2004 09:38 PMOvaltine? That's for yoofs. Wait till you reach the age of Horlicks - then complain!
Posted by: Miguel on February 12, 2004 09:39 PMyoofs?
Due to illness, tonight the part of MiguelCardoso will be played by Joe Pesci.
And, Eyeball, what happened to yer soul patch?
Posted by: jonmc on February 12, 2004 09:44 PMI will one day visit New York. I have thought of it. Honest.
Posted by: kaf on February 12, 2004 09:51 PMI woke one morning and decided to shave.
I don't know what caused it.
Posted by: eyeballkid on February 12, 2004 09:53 PMAha! I always thought lupo was bi-coastal, now we have proof!
But after all this time, is anybody going to remember to come to Boston Cambridge next Saturday night to have drinks with Crash and me?
hmmm?
Posted by: yhbc on February 12, 2004 09:55 PMSilly commish. Strikeout doesn't work anymore. Imagine that "Boston" up there crossed out, will you? It makes the funny better.
Posted by: yhbc on February 12, 2004 09:57 PMI will one day visit New York. I have thought of it. Honest.
Well, when you do come rest assured me, chico, and vidiot will give you the full gastrointestinal tour of the city. Eyeball got a little taste of it with rice to riches and Katz's. It'll be worth the bypass surgery.
Posted by: jonmc on February 12, 2004 10:02 PMcommish, you owe me an email.
I thought it was warm in Santa Monica, what's up with the jackets?
Posted by: ana on February 13, 2004 12:34 AMYou guys look so... so youthful, so pretty, so happy.
What's wrong? No, really, is everything okay in that pic?
But yeah, kaf, jon's right - when you finally drag your smiling simian self over theseaways, you better bring an appetite.
Posted by: Chico on February 13, 2004 01:39 AMLooks like a good time was had, would've liked to have been there. Cheers, gents!
I hope, that the return of those three to the pages of this fine establishment, means that the February malaise is officially over and we can go back to some wisecrackin' haikuin' captionin' thinly-veiled-on-comin' web-based socialability...?
Posted by: Fes on February 13, 2004 09:21 AMCool, looks like all had a great time...*slaps ana*, why the jackets... they're near the ocean.
Posted by: thomcatspike on February 13, 2004 09:35 AMI'd say someone should come to Detroit, but well... I don't want to wish that on anybody.
Posted by: tj on February 13, 2004 10:45 AMWe could all go to St. Looey and take the soon-to-arrive Baby Fes some gold, frankincense and Brooks Brothers onesies.
Posted by: tizzie on February 13, 2004 11:16 AMI'm going to be in Chicago for the weekend. Anyone wanna do something warm? (Is there anything warm in Chicago this weekend?)
Posted by: Chico on February 13, 2004 11:43 AMThe Morning News talks about our Helping Hands Monkeys. Cool.
Posted by: tizzie on February 13, 2004 11:53 AM"Daddy drinks because I cry."
Not too sure about the others, but that one is pretty great.
Posted by: dong resin on February 13, 2004 12:56 PMHey! No-one has gotten me the "Anarchy" onesie yet...I'm lookin' at you, Vidiot!
Posted by: milo monkey man on February 13, 2004 01:12 PMMy post on February 9th seems to have prompted the arrival of a a few confused Survivor fans.
I'm asacared. Hold me.
And kill them.
"anarchy in the pre-k" jammies are only to be worn by MeFites with numbers under 1000, right?
AND WHO FORGOT TO INVITE WENDELL???
(I'm so lonely...)
(and before anybody else says it: for good reason.)
The Morning News talks about our Helping Hands Monkeys. Cool.
I actually donated my car to them about a year ago. What they're gonna do with a 93' Pontiac Sunbird with 200,000+ miles on it and a wasted transmission, I dunno. But it's theirs!
Also:
Eyeball got a little taste of it with rice to riches and Katz's. It'll be worth the bypass surgery.
Jonmc, is the NYC Katz's The One That Started It All? We have one in Houston but I've been wary of its pedigree if it didn't spring from the original.
(I've never had a reuben, but I figure that'd be the place to go to have my first.)
Cyrano, the Katz's in NYC is not a chain. It is the last of the great old school delis and one of the remaining totems of what the Lower East Side was like before the yuppies moved in. Just have a pastrami sandwich and you will have a religious experience.
Posted by: jonmc on February 13, 2004 02:24 PMWeeell, shit. But at least it's on Houston street, eh?
On more thing to add to my NYC To Do list, then.
Danke.
Posted by: Cyrano on February 13, 2004 02:37 PMCool, looks like all had a great time...*slaps ana*, why the jackets... they're near the ocean.
I'm just bitter since it's going to be below zero here this weekend.
jonmc, do you ever check your email?
Posted by: ana on February 13, 2004 03:36 PMAND WHO FORGOT TO INVITE WENDELL???
No offense, but I don't actually know who you are. That makes the invitation paradigm a difficult one.
Posted by: kaf on February 13, 2004 04:41 PMInvitations aren't needed, especially if you bring a honey-baked ham to share with the group.
Or beer nuts. Beer nuts will get you right in.
Posted by: tizzie on February 13, 2004 04:55 PMI don't actually know who you are.
Have you ever actually READ MetaFilter?!?
I've done everything but post nude pictures of myself there... (and if I ever do, I'm blaming YOU).
;)
Beer nuts will get you right in.
I used to have beer nuts, but the surgery was sucessful...
Have you ever actually READ MetaFilter?!?
Not since you showed up, I guess.
But yeah, not very much anymore.
Posted by: kaf on February 13, 2004 05:38 PMChico -- where you gonna be in Chi-town? Downtown? 'Burbs?
Posted by: aine42 on February 13, 2004 05:44 PMJon also snuck tried to bad touch me while I was in NYC.
A lot.
Posted by: eyeballkid on February 13, 2004 07:50 PMd00d. I'm not even drunk.
Let me try again, even though the funny is now lost: Jon tried to bad touch me while I was in NYC.
A lot.
That warms my cockles. Really, looks fun. Nice to see some activity here, too (despite my extended absence doing that dreadful exercise called work).
Posted by: adampsyche on February 13, 2004 08:17 PMOh, yeah. If anyone out there is still linking me, I've moved. Or, parked here for brevity.
Posted by: adampsyche on February 13, 2004 08:19 PMJon tried to bad touch me while I was in NYC.
Yeah, but now that you ditched the chin lint, all that's over, silly boy.
Posted by: jonmc on February 13, 2004 08:27 PMWooHooo Adam! Little f00king ray of sunshine, indeed.
And on a totally unrelated note, tomorrow is me 'n hubby's 5 year wedded anniversary, which is a very good thing.
So no flirting with other men tomorrow, one day only! Oh, dear, I ought not to say that, but I'm a little bit drubk.
Not as drubk as EBK, mebbe, eh?
A lot.
Posted by: tizzie on February 13, 2004 08:28 PMIn the five minute walk from my flat to work, I counted not one, not two, but three people with masses of roses in hand.
11 o' clock on a saturday morning is way too fucking early for this smaltz.
Posted by: romakimmy on February 14, 2004 05:54 AMWhat romakimmy, only timeshift down to 9am saturday morning. Bleaaah-hah.
Posted by: dong resin on February 14, 2004 09:36 AMWhat romakimmy said, I meant to say.
I'm too bitter to type properly.
There's little hearts on my Google toolbar!
In yet another shining example of Italian fuckups, I've had those fucking hearts on my tool bar since yesterday.
I think it's a pretty bad sign when my toolbar starts mocking me a full day in advance.
Posted by: romakimmy on February 14, 2004 09:42 AMI'm downtown, hanging with my brother, getting over last night.
I went to a drag show and someone who looked a little too much like Steadman Graham kept giving the performers money all night. It was lovely.
Tonight I'm around. What's good to do?
Posted by: Chico on February 14, 2004 10:50 AM>11 o' clock on a Saturday morning is way too fucking early for this smaltz.
romakimmy, good thing you left Dallas, it's a 3 day event since the 14th fell on a Sat. : Fri send roses to her office, Sat wine 'n dine...Sun QA time.
Thank god it snowed today, 4to5 inches, yes a light fall for you east coasters. I'm doing none of the above...plus the woman I'm seeing just wants to sleep...weeee I get to go play in the snow after work.
Here is a lovely sign for your Valentine: Stop looking at pr0n.... This just a few blocks from where I sit which I find creepy. It's only intended audience is the Christian which is just the start of its weirdness. I could go on, yet will just say: if your lover is looking at pr0n that you don’t like; be the lovely party favor today: a wild sexy gift...Congratulations on Your {{{5th}}}Wedding Anniversary Tizzie & Hubby...awww the true valentines.
Posted by: thomcatspike on February 14, 2004 01:18 PMThanks, TCS!
And luckily, he did not send me this card.
Posted by: tizzie on February 14, 2004 01:26 PMAnd luckily, he did not send me this card..
Haa ha...that was awsome.
D'oh! Sorry for not popping back in over the weekend, Chico. I was supposed to be headed down to Chicago Valentine's night to join my friend for "Bitter Bowl III" (bowling and getting drubk with fellow singles) but I managed to tear a muscle in my shoulder, so I kind of stayed on my couch up here in Wisconsin, hugging my painkillers.
Typical Valentine's Day -- loads o' pain.
Hope you had fun, though. And as long as the dancers didn't look like Steadman, you got off easy.
Posted by: aine42 on February 16, 2004 07:06 PMAine, don't sweat it. My guides were excellent, and I'll definitely be going back when the weather gets better.
I hope they reattach your arm. That sounds ... not very good.

I'm back, in all my jet-lagged glory. We had a great time meeting you guys. Sorry we didn't invite you, wendell, but last I heard you were living on the streets. I wasn't sure which shelter to send the invitation to.
I also go to see Witchstone while I was out there. I'll post a pic later, once my brain catches up with my body. I saw her play. She was fantastic. (The play itself wasn't all that good, but she was great.) Her boob job looks so REAL! Which is rare in a 54 triple-D.
