March 11, 2004 : Monkeying In The Sun

bubpavaree_monkeybeach.jpg

Ok I'm off tomorrow then. On my walrus page there's a link to my travel journal, which I'm not posting directly here for fear it will fill up with spam.

Now, someone mix me a cocktail for my flight. I want something suitably international-tasting with the side-effect of melting the roof of my mouth and causing my brain to implode for a period of no less than six hours.

People have said these things about that :

Where are you going again, walrus?

Posted by: Vidiot on March 11, 2004 09:29 AM

Everywhere I can! Dubai (for twelve hours), then Chennai (Madras) in the South of India. We shall wend our way up through the jungly and mountainy and deserty bits until we reach the top and then head East. Thailand first, then overland through Malaysia to Singapore. Then Australia, where my relatives run a diving school on the barrier reef. Then New Zealand and, if the money allows, as many of Samoa, Fiji, Tonga and Tahiti as we can touch down on. If we still have any money after that lot, we'll catch a plane to South America and head north until we've got just enough left for a plane ticket home. Phew. I deserve a few cocktails now just for remembering it all!

That's wild, man, How totally Phineas Fogg of you.

Any chance of a Korean detour to meet up with stav? Homeboy deserves some action.

Oh. A caption:

"...and don't come back until you've grown a tail!

Hairless pasty oversized clothes-wearin' freaks."

Posted by: Chico on March 11, 2004 10:14 AM

Sounds great. I'm sure many cocktails await your perambulations.

Posted by: Vidiot on March 11, 2004 10:17 AM

That is so exotic, walrus, that i'm jealous as hell. I hope it is a wonderful trip!

Posted by: tizzie on March 11, 2004 10:42 AM

In the next shot, the monkeys are on them. Tearing, tearing at their soft flesh.

Walrus, you have my admiration. I think you may also have my pen. Please come to California and give it back.

Posted by: kafkaesque on March 11, 2004 11:34 AM

Wouldn't mind some wonderchicken action myself Chico, but I dunno if we'll be passing close enough for a detour.

Can't I get a tail grafted on by now anyway? One would think, what with modern medical technology .... trousers may be problematic though.

I'm still using your pen kaf. You may have it when I can re-extract it again. I may have to upgrade my medical insurance for that very purpose.

Posted by: flying walrus on March 11, 2004 01:03 PM

What tizzie said, but without all the cursing.

Posted by: dong resin on March 11, 2004 02:09 PM

Wow! Best. trip. ever. May you return with many glorious tales and no social diseases.

I love that they're called "social diseases;" it IS a pretty socialable act. Or so I've heard.

Posted by: readymade on March 11, 2004 04:10 PM

Many golrious tails would really make wearing pants difficult.

Posted by: towerbrave on March 11, 2004 06:43 PM

Ah, finally! An excuse!

Posted by: Vidiot on March 11, 2004 07:51 PM

Ooh, walrus. The trip sounds fabulous. I wish you loads of fun and safe travels. I'll definitely be checking your journal for updates.

On a much smaller travel note, a friend and I will possibly be in Manhattan the first weekend of April, if any monkeys are up for catching a lovely beverage with us. No definite plans yet, though.

Posted by: aine42 on March 11, 2004 07:52 PM

Maybe we can go BOWLING!

Posted by: adam on March 11, 2004 08:19 PM

Wicked, cheers for all the cheers. Got to get going now ... so much to do and so little time! Might pop back in here from Dubai tomorrow if I'm bored ;-)

Posted by: flying walrus on March 12, 2004 07:11 AM

tizzie what's your web address?

Posted by: flying walrus on March 12, 2004 08:12 AM

bon chance, Master Walrus. Come back to us from your excusions both hale and wiser, and with tales to tell.

Posted by: Fes on March 12, 2004 08:39 AM

Walrus, dear, i think this is my web address!

Posted by: tizzie on March 12, 2004 09:11 AM

Walrus - will you take me along next time, as your cocktail mixer? I'm unobtrusive and have simple tastes (leave me alone with the booze and I'll be all right), though I would like a quiet word about your destinations. ;)

Enjoy! Keep us posted, you lucky bastard - you deserve every second. I'm looking forward to some travel poems too. Keep that notebook close to your tender, beating heart!

Monkeys get the blame.

(I mean, it's true and all, but...still.)

Posted by: ColdChef on March 12, 2004 11:40 PM

Hubba hubba I'm in Dubai. It's hot and I haven't got a lot to do. I'll report back from India tomorrow or the day after. Migs, get yourself on a plane to Madras right now! I demand a stiff Bloody Mary on arrival.

Posted by: flying walrus on March 13, 2004 03:05 AM

go walrus! go walrus!

Posted by: jpoulos on March 13, 2004 12:01 PM

To those monkeys whom signed up for the lawsuit pay out from the music industry overcharging cds receive your check, 13 banana bucks?

Posted by: thomcatspike on March 13, 2004 02:06 PM

Yes, we have no bananas! We have no bananas today!

Posted by: tizzie on March 13, 2004 09:15 PM

I know a banana bunch of people who received their checks this past week.

Posted by: ana on March 13, 2004 10:11 PM

Ok, so what the fuck is the deal with rabbits? I got out of my car a minute ago, and there were a couple bunnies gettin' ready to make babies. One would sniff the other, and as soon as the second one would twitch, the first one would jump *up* and back. Then creep forward again for another sniff. Weird.

Posted by: notsnot on March 14, 2004 01:45 AM

Well notsnot, sometimes it takes more alcohol than you originally figure in the dimly lit bar, is all.

Posted by: dong resin on March 14, 2004 10:23 AM

Hey we've been hanging with the local temple monkeys. A bunch of good guys, but don't let them spot a drink in your hand or they'll have it and be up a tree in seconds. I'm one bottle of fanta down, but wiser. Just feeling lucky it wasn't a cocktail! When we can work out the technology I'll post pictures. I dunno with the rabbits. They don't sound as horny as monkeys, but that may be just the heatstroke talking.

Posted by: flying walrus on March 15, 2004 05:25 AM

Monkeys Stole My Fanta!

That sounds like a headline in the Weekly World News. Walrus, you are an excellent reporter.

Posted by: tizzie on March 15, 2004 06:43 AM

Walrus rode an elephant!

(I'm not gonna link - you know where to look!)

Posted by: tizzie on March 18, 2004 03:00 PM
Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
