April 05, 2004 : Monkeys I Have Known

apewatch.jpg

So, I've been threatening to do this for ages, but haven't got around to it. You know how it goes, when you have a choice of beach or internet ...

By the way, apologies if I don't get to reply here for a day or two (I can hear the beach from here ...)

People have said these things about that :

By the way I should mention, these photos are copyright roobarb but you guys get special dispensation to use them however you like ... and just for Stav, this is a packet of cigarette papers from Cambodia ... should be more careful with your image rights man ... http://www.cheshirecat.tv/djworldtrip/archive/wonderchicken.jpg

(and why can't I put pics or links in here any more? what's the story there?)

"Hey! That %&^*$# monkey stole my orange Fanta!"

Walrus, did you say it was OK to like your worldtrip site?

Posted by: kaf on April 5, 2004 01:21 PM

Permission or not, I like it, dammit. Sure, we all sit at work and talk about living the monkey lifestyle like a bunch of slacktivists, but he's doing it, man!

I don't think it's all that great. Elephants, monkeys, curry, temples, blah, blah, blah.

(hey, he's sitting on a beach playing with monkeys while I'm at work slaving away! I have to act a little mean, even if it's just an act.)

Thanks for the pictures, walrus and roobarb

Enjoy yourself, our Walrus!

Thanks for the pics. The one with the slice of watermelon and your partying tone implanted in my deepest tympanii the much-loved "Step on You" ear-worm from Happy Mondays:

You’re twistin’ my melon man,
You know you talk so hip man,
You’re twistin’ my melon man!

Hey rainmaker! :)

There's very little being said over here lately (except from the current crop of spammers), so I figured it might be safe to mention that, amazingly, I am currently working on that rarest of rarities: The Comment-Less MetaTalk Post.

I'm stunned. It's like pitching a no-hitter, and I hope I haven't jinxed it by bringing it up over here, but I just had to, you know? If I can pull this off for a full twenty-four hours, I may just try for Miguel's self-linking double-post from a banned member, or whatever it was.

Now don't any of you bastards go and ruin it. I'll know where to find you.

Wait, I'm a bit lobst. Are we supposed to laugh or cry about that? Hmm, I s'pose I can do both.

And FWIW, commish, I've gotten that error on several random closed threads here and there. Not sure what to do about it, but...um, hell...

Uh Oh!

Posted by: thomcatspike on April 7, 2004 08:37 AM

It seems that someone broke Metafilter again anyway.

Not that it matters to me.

Read the thread in my comment that I posted in the "second childhood" thread if want some reminiscent blue bile.

Posted by: thomcatspike on April 7, 2004 11:36 AM

Ha. I meant LINK. Is it OK to LINK your site?

Posted by: kaf on April 7, 2004 12:09 PM

Hah, Kaf - I thought that was kind of a weird question.

No, Walrus said please don't link to the trip site because he's afraid he'll get comment spam.

Posted by: tizzie on April 7, 2004 04:36 PM

Comment spam? Never heard of it.

Posted by: ana on April 7, 2004 11:55 PM

Check it out: The Zoological Society of London wants you to monkey around at work.
Science, my friends, is a strange mistress.

All jealousy gratefully received ;-)

Hell kaf, go ahead and link it. Comment spam is inevitable anyway, it's like trying to fight a fountain of fudge with your fists. Look, tell you what, I'll start here ...

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.

In an effort to help eliminate spam (and to preserve the sanity of the 9622 Volunteer Simian Spam-Cop Brigade) all threads older than 30 days will now be closed to comments.
