Countdown to NY Lebowskifest! We needed a new picture. This one is from the Louisville event.
Posted by tizzie at August 09, 2004 11:00 AMWell, since it's either this or just straight up pouting, I'll go for the thundersteal:
Anyone else pondering hitting up the Voodoo Music Fest in New Orleans in October? Sonic Youth, Pixies, Beasties, and a reunited Tribe Called Quest. Oooh ooh! Kid Rock too!
Posted by: ufez on August 9, 2004 01:11 PMI'm definitely bringing more of those plastic monkeys. Those monkeys really tied the fest together.
Posted by: tizzie on August 9, 2004 02:37 PMJust noticed the dead giveaway that that picture is from the Kentucky fest.
The natives are not wearing shoes.
Posted by: tizzie on August 9, 2004 02:39 PMYou're out of your element, chico. (btw, did you get the swap cd?)
Posted by: ufez on August 9, 2004 02:52 PMNY, New Orleans in October.....make me cry, why don't you?
Posted by: salmonberry on August 9, 2004 04:59 PMI prolly won't make Lebowskifest, but I'd definitely wanna meet up for drinks later. When's this festificatin' happening again?

Am I the only one who did a quick toe count, just to make sure?
(I know, I know, the toe is not the issue...)
ufez: Damn, that sounds cool. The closest I'm gonna get to that is the Blues and Roots fest, and that's if I don't wind up helping to paint the deck here instead... Looks like a decent lineup, though, Wilson Pickett, the Funk Brothers, John Prine...
Posted by: arto on August 10, 2004 12:34 AMWell, *I* finally got a copy of the cd, ufez. So chico must have his!
Posted by: salmonberry on August 10, 2004 02:37 PMOff topic.
I never miss reading the local obituaries. This one (edited) from today's paper is awesome:
A businesswoman and former burlesque dancer who opened the first go-go bar here and went on to work for one of the area's most prominent developers, died Sunday at her home. She was 72.
She came from humble beginnings but was a hard worker who lied about her age to get her first job managing a soda line at a drug store at 13. She continued that work ethic in show business, dancing in Chicago with Gypsy Rose Lee and opening several clubs in Illinois before moving back to Kentucky, where she opened the Pink Pussycat, the city's first go-go club.
"She was born in a log cabin in the mountains of Kentucky and had limited education," her daughter said. "But she went on to win several fortunes in her lifetime."
"They danced beautifully, and they were never nude. It was all illusion," she said.
She was preceded in death by three husbands. Memorials are suggested to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
"They danced beautifully, and they were never nude. It was all illusion"
Why am I hearing that in Doug Henning's voice???
Posted by: tj on August 10, 2004 03:23 PMYes, I've got my copy too, Uf. (That Karma Police cover is actually really diggable. Thanks!)
Posted by: Chico on August 10, 2004 03:57 PMAlways blows my mind to think that Gypsy Rose Lee was an actual person and not just some sort of collective memory archetype.

When you moved to Italy, did you know about the electric company there?
Is its name why you moved?

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys
wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone
else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts
on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found
here. Thanks.
