November 02, 2004 : More GOP Shenanigans????

300 children bitten by 'blood sucking' monkeys at famous Indian temple

Monkeys lurking at an ancient Hindu temple in India's northeast have attacked up to 300 children over three weeks, temple officials said Tuesday.

"They hide in trees and swoop on unsuspecting children loitering about in the temple premises or walking by, clawing them and even sucking a bit of blood," Bani Kumar Sharma, a priest at the Kamakhya temple in Assam state, told The Associated Press....

People have said these things about that :

I hate it when that happens.

I can't believe that there's only an hour and a half left before the polls close in Kentucky and it will be all over bar the finagling, errr, counting.

I'm a total nervous wreck. Vidiot, will you be sure to feed us the insider information while it's hot on the press? You've got the cred!

Posted by: tizzie on November 2, 2004 04:38 PM

Alas, I have no insider information. We're in the business of getting information out as quickly as possible..the only restrictions on this are that we're not reporting exit polling data or vote counts until all the precincts in a given state have closed. First numbers hit in just a few minutes, at 7pm ET.

The out come of the election is scarier than this post.

Am I blue,
Am I blue,
Ain't these tears in these eyes
telling you?

For those of you who, like my goat and I, are a bit hungover and disgruntled, you might could take a little bit of solace in this:

Dallas (not the city but the larger municipality) now has an openly lesbian minority democrat Sheriff. Which, really, is quite shocking.

Man, this is the suck.

To paraphrase Barry Crimmins:

"People say to me, 'you hate America so much, why don't you just leave?'"

"Because I don't want to be a victim of its foreign policy."

The people I met in England just despise Bush, every single one of them. And these were well-to-do people, of the social class that in the US would probably skew towards the GOP.

I keep thinking back to the post Miguel had on Metafilter way back when, where he said that the Yanks take these things too seriously, and that in the vast scheme of things, it's no big deal. Then I hear my family and friends, who feel that this is the end of the world as they know it.

At about mid-afternoon yesterday I started panicking - maybe we haven't done enough! What can we do?!?!

And now - what can we do?? Is it as bad as my gut feeling tells me it is?

What's with your website, kaf? It looks different.

An Army Of Lawyers can not fail.

Speaking as a citizen of a relatively small and unarmed country snuggled up next to America, I dearly hope the situation is not as bad as the cold and sinking feeling in my gut says it is. I'd say, 'come on up here, you fabulous Monkeys, and join us pot-smokin' sodomites!' but if the US tanks, it'll take us down with it... not that I wouldn't be glad to see you all!

Posted by: towerbrave on November 3, 2004 06:15 PM

towerbrave -- Would something like this work? You'd get most of us in that border revision. We could import the other monkeys.

Posted by: aine42 on November 3, 2004 07:14 PM

aine, as a Vancouverite I am soooooo down for that. At par sunny winters! Hell ya.

Failing that - Cascadia now!

That's awesome.

Or you could Marry an American.

To the barricades, simian brethren!

Posted by: stavrosthewonderchicken on November 4, 2004 06:07 AM

The part that really fries my eggs is this "cooperation moving forward" bullshit.

If I could have supported his sick and twisted agenda, then wouldn't I have gone ahead and voted for the asshole??

I'm not gonna cooperate with any of it.I will resist until they pull the petrified banana from my cold stiff monkey hands.

When the secret police ask me about you guys, rest assured I will tell them nothing - NOTHING!

But, obviously, I will require some stand-in victims. If you could email me some names, I'd be obliged. Thanks in advance!

Posted by: Fes on November 4, 2004 11:36 AM

John Ashcroft, Karl Rove, Bill O'Reilly...the list is endless.

Posted by: Vidiot on November 4, 2004 01:32 PM

Fes: I'm with Vidiot on this one. For me, please substitute Ann Coulter. The first name's roughly the same. No one should question you.

Posted by: aine42 on November 4, 2004 06:10 PM

Vidiot, aine42: I'll see what I can do. The secret police *can* be tricked and/or hypmotized - I'll give them a bootleg tape of Ashcroft's album, and slip a copy of Al Franken's latest book into Coulter's purse. That should seal the deal.

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux.
