April 04, 2005 : Play Ball!

It's Opening Day, hooray! A new beginning.

People have said these things about that :

Well, yeah, it's Opening Day, but last night was Opening Night, and what better way to start the season than with the heroic Bronz Bombers shellacking the evil Red Sox?

Posted by: Crash on April 4, 2005 09:32 AM

Bronx. Bronx Bombers. I don't actually know how many of them were tanned.

I'm just hours away from my first pre-game beer and brat and ceremonial first lap around the park before going to my seat for the Chicago White Sox home opener. And it looks like only the second home opener in 15 years that I will not have to wear gloves, get pelted with freezing rain, or just plain freeze my ass off.

And Crash, with all of that shellac I could see them getting at least a little bronzed.

Our goddess of spam removal, the lovely and talented Dana, has been on vacation.

We miss her. And not just for her de-spamming talents!

Um, and if it's not obvious, I noticed the above mentioned posts in the RECENT COMMENTS section to the left. I couldn't figure out why there were suddenly so many posts to threads I didn't even remember.

Now on to more important issues: Do I go with my black late 70's Sox baseball cap or my Butthole Surfers hat? Hmmmm.....

Crash, in support of my case.

Opening Day is also when we celebrate the birthday of my most venerated senior dog, Max! I think he's 10 today.

Posted by: tizzie on April 4, 2005 10:08 AM

Happy Birthday, Max!

And let me just say that I hate, hate, hate the Yankees.

However, I am going to attempt to go to some minor-league ball, which is still blisfully free of overpaid clear-and-cream-smearing, steroid-injecting whining yahoos. (I like my yahoos scrawny and impoverished, evidently.)

Aww, tizzie -- Max is awesome. (Happy birthday, Max!) What kind of pooch is he?

Unrelated to puppies or baseball: Vidiot -- your disk is on its way to you. Won't reach you in time for any pre-opening day tailgate parties, but you should have it sometime this week.

Thank you, aine. He's a chow/lab mix, with a great disposition - a great wooly bear. Just a big old sweetheart.

I acquired him when I came home from the Opening Day game 10 years ago, on a perfect day much like today. I had a nice beer buzz going, and here's this crying girl walking this little furball down the street. Of course, I had to ask her why she was crying, and of course she had to tell me that she had to take her puppy to the pound....

Ahhhhh, baseball.

Jeez, this place is a mess! Slack-a-gogo, I think I accidentally deleted one of your comments while trying to sift through the spam. I do this only to people I really like, though, so consider this something akin to a Valentine's Day card.

Aww. You've deleted two of mine in the last few months. I'm feelin' super special. *heh*

Posted by: aine42 on April 4, 2005 08:51 PM

Sure, rub in the fact that I deleted the comments of a woman with only one functioning arm.

Posted by: dana on April 4, 2005 09:02 PM

The other arm is functioning again. And I don't think you killed any comments while I was laid up. It's all good.

Jon, the post you linked, neato. Reading the comments I seem to be missing the post’s 45's playback(sound). Am I reading the site right and just missing the appropriate sound link?

thom, mp3 blogs customarily only leave the files up for 5 days or so. The blogger must have taken it down.

Thanks, knowing to keep a look for them.

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.

In an effort to help eliminate spam (and to preserve the sanity of the 9622 Volunteer Simian Spam-Cop Brigade) all threads older than 30 days will now be closed to comments.
