July 05, 2005 : People is people!

"Trying to tell you people come from monkeys and all that stuff. Couldn't be right! Monkeys to me, like a chicken, you know? People is people."

People have said these things about that :

I heard that quote on NPR this morning, from a citizen of Dayton, Tennessee, commenting on the Scopes Monkey Trial. It seemed ideal for 9622.

That, and I wanted to move the humping photo over.

And this is cracking me up.

Hmmmm. To the gentleman quoted above, chickens might possibly seem like people, if you know what I mean.

Also: that thread linked above is golden proof that I had WAY too much unsupervised free time at my last two jobs.

And this one, too, come to think of it.

The Scopes Monkey Trial always leaves me singing the "The Monkey Song" by Robin and Crystal Bernard.

"I'm no kin to the monkey -no-no-no
The monkey's no kin to me - yeah-yeah-yeah".

Sing along everybody! Still one of the weirdest songs ever.

Wow. Brought to us by "the miracle of recording."

These fuckers think everything's a miracle. Whoooooaaaanonono.

Slack-a-gogo, how much do I love that picture of that kid and monkey holding hands?

I love it very much, indeed.

Well, this monkey likes a chicken.

You know.

*unsings the miracle of electricity*

You know, this unsinging isn't as easy as one might think it would be.

It's okay, Crash. I'm a trained professional.

In fact, I'm unsinging "Unskinny Bop" right now while undrinking a glass of unwater and unstanding on my head. And un-unposting this uncomment.

All of this miraculosity will, of course, become unpossible once the acid wears off.

I just wanted to thank slack-a-gogo for posting that song. It's been ages since I've stepped in a church, and of all the songs they made us sing, that is the only one I truly loved. As much as I hated church, that song really has made my day.

...and I always thought one of the adults in Sunday school had written the song herself.

Thanks

shpoik! I thought that song was crazy just being sung by two young girls. But it's really scary that OTHER children were taught the song!?! Although, as a kid I'm sure that one would be right up there with "Greasy Grimey Gopher Guts" and "Old Bill Grogan's Goat" - two songs I loved way past the appropriate age. As I got older I was shocked to learn how many of the songs I learned at camp were religious. Eeek.

really cool schoolyard song of old new york.

jonmc - THAT'S the song that I lovingly knew as "Old Bill Grogan's Goat." And it was always sung either before or after the other call-and-response favorite "The Other Day I Saw A Bear". You know, both of those songs seemed a lot funnier when I was 10 years old. Is

When I was a kid, in the sixth grade, for "music appreciation" we would get to choose songs from this offbeat music book to perform. My best friend Jeff Coon and I would always choose "The Boll Weevil Song" when we had the chance, and we would fucking SHOUT the lyrics, which seemed amazingly funny at the time, so I can totally appreciate the hilarity of which Slack-a-gogo is speaking.

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
