August 03, 2005 : Hopefully We're Not Too Late, What With the International Dateline and Stuff

So tizzie reminded me that we missed stavrosthewonderchicken's 40th birthday. What do you get a drunken chicken for such an auspicious event? I was thinking we could all chip in and have him sent to the Aso Cuddly Dominion for breeding.

Happy birthday!

People have said these things about that :

From the TOP FIVE FAQs FOR DRUNKEN CHICKEN:
Do you need to take a sip of beer from the can before inserting it into the chicken?

I'd have said that, at the very least, you should send him flowers. (ba-dum-bum)

Happy possibly-belated Birthday, oh glorious Stavros!

Happy belated b-day, Stav!

Happy birthday, you beautiful bastard!

And I'm calling you Vros from now on. Everyone calls you Stav.

Hmm. Now we have a man that only says the ends of words.

'app' 'irthda', 'avro'!

Sometimes life just gives you a vintage Monty Python setup, and you just have to run with it.

... and I shall call him "Stavbringer, The Ebon Blade" because, while he is an instrument of destruction, he is also an agent of the Balance.

I will also occasionally call him "Gramps," for he is, at 40, much older than I, if far better haired. Happy Birthday, thou bastarda magnifico!

Thank you for the birthday wishes, gentle, beloved simian friends. It was an uneventful day. In my dotage, I have acquired the (questionable) wisdom that inclines me towards saving the drink until the Friday following the actual day of my birth, which will be tomorrow (and there will be much rejoicing, if rejoicing tinged with delicious melancholia).

I usually teach adults here at Korea Megacorp, but I have been roped, this week and next, into english-sitting some middle school students. They are well-behaved and not entirely unenthused, so it's all good, if tiring. Today, one of the 13-year-old girls, one of the ones for whom puberty has not yet kicked in, not uncommon at that age here in Korea, was wearing a bright pink t-shirt, with spangles and scripty writing on the front, very retro-70's. The slogan? "If you're happy and you know it, buy me a drink."

I laughed, but kindly.

happy birthday, wonderchicken. Tonight at the bar, a beer will be hoisted skyward, then poured mouthward in your name.

It's that time again. Thank the cheeseloving lord.

Listening to Daft Punk and watching that is trippier than George Bush in platform shoes.

Is it "Robot Rock"? That is the best song ever. I listen to it and I'm all like ohmygodIfeelliketherobotsarecomingtogetmeandwhentheygetherethey'regonnawanttoboogiesoIwillhavetogetmydancinshoesonyessirwheeeeeeeeee!

It's the "Homework" album, actually. And, strangely, every song sounds like it was written as the soundtrack to Stav's fleaky-fleaky gif.

I like to think that, in that photo (which I'm obviously obsessing over), they all just did a shot of Clamato-with-a-dash-of-Tabasco in honor of Stav's birthday.

Posted by: jpoulos on August 5, 2005 02:14 PM

I like Homework, too. But then we bought their follow-up which is just super hella crappy and sounds like a bad ABBA flashback or something.

Ya know...I'm home sick today, and those gifs DID NOT HELP.

(Sheesh. I come back and it's all "Seizure-GIF puke land.") :)

Happy birthday, Mr. Wonderchicken, sir.

Those things aren't terribly kind to hangovers, either. Yikes.

Why not join in and say something too?
