November 08, 2005 : Upgrade Complete

But for some reason, it's not publishing comments until they're "approved". I'm working on it.

UPDATE OK. The problem was remainders from the old mt-blacklist application. All set now. Let me know in this thread if you encounter any problems. (Or, if you can't post a comment, email me at blogflicker AT gmail.)

Works for me, unless you don't see this comment, in which case it doesn't.

Posted by: Vidiot on November 8, 2005 11:52 PM

Who said that?

Hey, I just got re-elected! I'll post a story here or on MeCha (maybe both) tomorrow when the Milford (Mass) Daily News comes out.

Yay, me, and all that. (I'm both drubk, and tired, from standing outside the high school with a sign saying, essentially, "vote 4 me!" for fourteen hours today).

Posted by: yhbc on November 9, 2005 01:03 AM

Commish! w00t! That's great news, friend. Those Massachusetts voters obviously know good government.

Either that, or they're a lot of disenfranchised monkeys who have joined your cult of personality.

Posted by: tizzie on November 9, 2005 03:00 AM

I would have voted for you, commish, but I'm vehemently opposed to your position on a Hemsipheric Free Trade Zone. Plus, I don't live in your town and I don't know what you were running for.

Congratulations, though.

Posted by: jpoulos on November 9, 2005 09:42 AM

Well, here's the story, such as it is. No picture, no good quote, so it's not really worth a thread of its own, I'd say. Thanks, though.

But mark my words, we will see the Hemispheric Free Trade Zone installed, so help me Zod!

(I am sometimes known as Phil Evans, BTW, in case anyone tries looking in the article for vote totals for either "yhbc" or "Commish")

Posted by: yhbc on November 9, 2005 11:16 AM

Congrats, commish! But you might want to think about setting your sights a bit higher -- like, say, the White House.

'Cause goodness knows that's where we need good government right now...

Posted by: Vidiot on November 9, 2005 11:33 AM

Congrats! That's great news! The people of Milford have waited long enough for the Hemispheric Free Trade Zone.

(A 14-way race, though? Where do you live, Kajagoogoostan?)

Posted by: dana on November 9, 2005 12:01 PM

The national anthem is "Too Shy"?

Posted by: jpoulos on November 9, 2005 02:14 PM

There's only one precinct in town?

I bet that Free Trade Zone resembles a church rummage sale.

Posted by: tizzie on November 9, 2005 02:48 PM

I'm waiting on the Atmospheric Pretty-Cheap Zone, but none of you politicos are coming through for me on that.

Which is why I'm so disgruntled* about government....

*without gruntles.

Posted by: readymade on November 9, 2005 03:01 PM

forget globalization - we're talking Innner Planetization! I personally want me some of that exploited Venusian... never mind.

"That Venusian you were with was a *male*."

Doesn't matter, when it's Venusian!

Posted by: Fes on November 9, 2005 03:18 PM

The national anthem is "Too Shy"?

*prepares invasion force*

Posted by: jonmc on November 9, 2005 03:39 PM

I'm waiting on the Atmospheric Pretty-Cheap Zone

See, it's this centrism that's RUINING our two-party system.

Posted by: dana on November 9, 2005 03:57 PM

We're up to two parties now?

Posted by: Vidiot on November 9, 2005 05:15 PM

Council Vice Chairman?

So, what vice does the council endorse, Mister Chairman?

Posted by: Crash on November 9, 2005 07:03 PM

Woo! Way to go, Commish.

And I don't know what kind of election nonsense you folks are up to over there, but the kid in that picture is just too damned young to vote. Remember -- even though it may be tempting to boost that "20% of eligible voters" number by letting toddlers vote, it's just not legal.

Or is that part of the new Hemispheric Free Trade Zone?

Posted by: aine42 on November 9, 2005 10:49 PM

Cripes. You people latch onto something and just don't let go, do you?

In order:

dana: No, in Franklin. We have nine councilors that are all "at large" (no election by precincts, of which there are nine), and which are all elected every two years. This has been widely accepted lately to be a Major Glitch in the system, since everyone in charge could theoretically be voted out of office all at once (although some folks might still like it that way), and we're also trying to get a Charter Commission together to change our town charter to allow staggered terms, among other things.

jpoulos: No, the Townal (is that the equivalent to "National"?) Anthem appears to be, at least from what I can tell from the overwhelmingly Italian-American heritage, "That's Amore".

tizzie: I already answered the precinct question. See above.

vidiot: Fortunately, we don't run for office by party, at least in this town. I'm glad for several reasons, not the least of which is that if we did, I'd have to finally register a party affiliation. Whenever anyone asks what party I am I try to just say that I'm a social liberal and a fiscal conservative, which either satisifies them or pisses them off and makes them say that they won't vote for me, and since they have through that reaction identifed themselves as an extremist on either one side or the other I can safely assume that I didn't want their vote in the first place.

Crash: * sniff * That would be ex-Vice Chairman. At tonight's organizational meeting I was replaced by the woman who came in third overall. Now I'm back to being just one of the other six on the wings. Oh, well.

And thanks again for all your well-wishes.

Posted by: yhbc on November 9, 2005 11:32 PM

Whoops. Missed aine42:

In the new Hemispheric Free Trade Zone, child labor (and voting) will not only be permitted, it will be mandatory.

Posted by: yhbc on November 9, 2005 11:34 PM

Can we make more amendments to the Hemispheric Free Trade Zone Charter?

I, for one, think that all cruel and unusual punishment should be televised.

Posted by: Vidiot on November 10, 2005 01:05 AM

Vidiot... that would be called the Fox Network, right?

Posted by: tj on November 10, 2005 02:30 PM

Ideally, Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson would be the torture-ees, though.

Posted by: Vidiot on November 10, 2005 03:41 PM

(after the truck ad - wait for it - issa good one.)

Posted by: krimur on November 11, 2005 12:57 PM

You've just made my life complete, krimur.

I'd always wonder what the best phrase in the English language was. Now I know. It's: "Up Next: Monkey Attacks News Anchor."

Posted by: Vidiot on November 11, 2005 02:12 PM

First I was worried that Mikey was going to bite her.

Then I was hoping that Mikey was going to bite her.

Posted by: jpoulos on November 11, 2005 03:20 PM

All I know is; if that monkey really bites, then I want to put a 9622\Thundersluts thong on him, and take him over to meet Dick Cheney.
(He can gnaw on Rumsfeld for dessert.)

Posted by: krimur on November 11, 2005 05:22 PM

Toddler on crack, yes indeedey! That made my day.

Posted by: tizzie on November 11, 2005 08:46 PM

Hey - I just noticed that if you don't put an URL in your posting profile your name doesn't get highlighted any more.

Is that an actual, honest-to-gracious problem with the new upgrade (and have I therefore made a productive comment within this thread) or is it just, you know, a feature? (or something that I missed from a while back?)

Posted by: yhbc on November 12, 2005 12:04 AM

It's a feature. In the past, you were required to put in an email address or url. I removed that restriction.

Posted by: jpoulos on November 12, 2005 10:38 AM

And a very fine feature it is, too.

Posted by: yhbc on November 12, 2005 06:09 PM

Features like that really make me ... hot.
Lupo, c'mere.

Posted by: tizzie on November 12, 2005 07:34 PM

Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me. LOCK AND LOAD, MOTHERFUCKERS.

Posted by: dana on November 22, 2005 10:28 AM

Like I said, let me know if you guys need a back-up spam cop. I'm online far more often than I should be.

Posted by: aine42 on November 22, 2005 05:13 PM

Ok, THAT's taken care of. Stupid nasty spammers! Now I know how the Pilgrims felt!

Posted by: dana on November 22, 2005 09:34 PM
Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
