Dana has jury duty. I'm hoping it's something like this so that we can get the insider dope.
Posted by: tizzie on January 9, 2006 12:49 PMShe's only doing this in the hopes of meeting a serial killer.
Posted by: jpoulos on January 9, 2006 01:11 PMI had jury duty for the first time a while back. I wound up just sitting around, but it was far better than I'd feared. I actually enjoyed it.
Posted by: Vidiot on January 9, 2006 03:47 PMI made it as far as watching the "How to be a juror" video (or whatever it was) in NYC. That's as far as I made it. I think they dismissed a bunch of people. Every other time I've been in the middle of moving to another state.
Posted by: witchstone on January 9, 2006 04:08 PMMy wife got called for jury duty, took the day off, and ended up getting sent home after an hour as the defendant didn't show.
This was over a month ago and she still hasn't been paid.
Posted by: Crash on January 9, 2006 05:11 PMI just got a rather frightening "preliminary questionnaire" informing me I had been selected for 9th district State court or something in San Francisco. I guess at least if I get called, it'll be an interesting case.
Posted by: kaf on January 9, 2006 05:22 PMClosest I came to being on a jury was voir dire. Have yet to make it past that, though they usually let me sit in the jury room for the better part of the two days before they decide they don't actually want me deciding anyone's fate. I think too many years working for various newspapers and a stint at a law firm don't do me any favors.
It's either that, or the part where I yell "Hang 'em all!"
Well, I'm done already. This was my shortest jury duty stint yet!
Fun fact! The court building I reported to was across the street from the Evangelistas' Bail Bonds! I wanted to stop up and say hi to Christopher, but I was afraid of getting runned over on Queens Blvd.
Posted by: dana on January 9, 2006 10:28 PMI was trying to think of a jury I would like to sit on. Not the Michael Jackson one - took too long. Not the Robert Blake one - has been. A war crimes trial for Bush and Cheney would be soul satisfying, but it might have gory evidence.
Traffic court? Crimes against fashion?
Posted by: tizzie on January 10, 2006 02:31 PMI was on Grand Jury - which meant we rubber stamped 15 - 30 cases a day (2 days a week for 2 months) to go to trail. By the third day it was really boring. The one highpoint was that we got an all day tour of the country prison on our first day, which meets some kind of requirement that all prisons need to to be inspected by the public on a regular basis. After the tour, going to prison went way down on my list of things I hope to do. Just below drinking a pitcher of warm buttermilk on a rowboat in rough waters.
Posted by: Slack-a-gogo on January 10, 2006 03:10 PMNo, but you were spot on with Ryan v. Ryan! Seven of nine points right there.
Posted by: tizzie on January 10, 2006 08:33 PMDon't forget to wish a happy XXX birthday to the signora in the fedora.
Posted by: ufez on January 10, 2006 10:21 PMDamn, I've never wanted a drink so bad in all my life!
And happy belated, Chico.
Posted by: tizzie on January 11, 2006 01:14 PMOh, man. I'm right there with you on that, tizzie.
And happy belated b-day, Chico. Sounds like you celebrated in wonderful style.
Posted by: aine42 on January 11, 2006 02:53 PMBuon Compleanno, Romakimmy! (that's probably wrong, but it's the best Google could do.) I hope your cocktails are of Chicoian caliber.
Posted by: tizzie on January 11, 2006 04:24 PMWhoa. How did I miss ufez's post?
Happy birthday, Romakimmy!
Posted by: aine42 on January 11, 2006 04:39 PMHappy birthday, chico and kimmy! I find it's only the most special folks what share an astrological sign with Jesus AND Mary J. Blige.
Posted by: dana on January 11, 2006 05:44 PMHappy Birthday, Mr. Bang. Sounds like you cocktailed with reckless abandon.
Romakimmy, you don't look a day over 18. Happy birthday.
Posted by: kaf on January 11, 2006 06:05 PMHappy birthday!
And I'd like to be on Phil Spector's jury. Just to see what crazy things are happening with his hair each day.

Tanti Auguri to chico & mille grazie to the rest of you all.
No cocktailing* ensued on this side of the pond, but this was not a problem thanks to my friend's enoteca and excellent skills as a sommelier.
* Well, at least not in the drinks sense of the word...
Posted by: roma-30isTheNew26-kimmy on January 12, 2006 09:26 AMHappy Birthday everyone, wait who is everyone here in this thread?
Bang & romakimmy? Reading pictures(phil spector's hair) guessing them two since his hair looks like spaggetti noodles after a bang...
Please, Mr. Catspike, I beg of you. Stop banging the spaghetti.
Posted by: kaf on January 12, 2006 02:23 PMHappiest of birthdays to kimmy and chico (who bears a striking resemblance, if I may say so, to Russell Crowe).
Posted by: jpoulos on January 12, 2006 02:42 PMNOW PLAYING AT YOUR LOCAL PORNO THEATER:
The Family Bone
Fun with Dick
Mammeries of a Geisha
The Chronicles of Hornia: The Lyin' Bitch and the Wardrobe
That last one took me exactly seven hours to write.
Posted by: ColdChef on January 12, 2006 10:46 PMLupo -- I actually heard a guy call it that the other day. He was telling his friend how he wasn't "gonna go see no fag film" and then seemed very amused with himself for coming up with the alternate title. As we were in a fairly crowded restaurant, the friend spent most of the conversation looking like he'd like to find someplace else to sit.
Posted by: aine42 on January 13, 2006 04:01 PMThen you'd be ColdTurkeyChef, and that's just awkward.
Posted by: Crash on January 13, 2006 09:27 PMAre you ready for the rapture? (mildly disturbing .mp3 sample)
Posted by: ufez on January 14, 2006 02:36 PMNot really, but oddly enough, I'm now ready for some football.
