September 10, 2006 : Prediction: Disgrace

Monkeys drinking whiskey while baby animals read James Joyce with Starlights Mints flavored background music. Go Bears.

What? It's been too damn quiet around here lately

People have said these things about that :

I'm in Redmond, Washington. Home of Microsoft.

I'm typing this on a Mac.

I feel so naughty.

Posted by: Crash on September 10, 2006 09:01 PM

Crash -- last time I was in Redmond, the sign at the town limits said "Home of the world's largest velodrome." No mention of Microsoft yet. So I just prefer to think of it as that.

And ufez, we're not talkin' about that game. Nope. Didn't happen. La la la. (I predict a season of denial. *sigh*)

I've been camping. I feel dirty, too. It's actually more than a feeling.

Posted by: tizzie on September 11, 2006 09:35 PM

That's what we've always said!

Posted by: Boston on September 12, 2006 09:05 AM

tizzie, when did you acquire that bear?

Posted by: dana on September 12, 2006 09:54 AM

In a strange turn of events, I am going to see the Roger Waters Dark Side of the Moon Live concert tonight at MSG. Too bad I don't smoke pot. Nonetheless, I am excited.

Nota male: This isn't going to be fun. (heartbreaking old-skool phonecam pic from a year and a half ago here). Anyone have any advice?

Posted by: ufez on September 13, 2006 02:08 AM

Ufez, askme is down - e-mail me.

Posted by: tizzie on September 13, 2006 07:03 AM

Boy, somebody really broke Metafilter.

Posted by: tizzie on September 13, 2006 12:44 PM

I was nowhere near it, honest.

Posted by: tj on September 13, 2006 01:23 PM

Oh really? Then what's that blue on your hands?

Posted by: witchstone on September 13, 2006 02:01 PM

I was/am:

A) playing with the funny water in the bowl

B) strangling smurfs

C) refuse to answer the question on the grounds that it may incriminate me.

D) a zombie

Posted by: tj on September 13, 2006 02:41 PM

I don't know what any of this techno-mumbo-jumbo means, but I think it exonerates tj:

Just a note to people looking for *.metafilter.com -- this morning there was an OS-level software problem on the web server, which required a total wipe and reinstall of the drive. The database server is fine, and I am getting all the data off the original web server drive, so everything should be back up and running by this afternoon or tonight at the latest. At the moment stuff is just being reinstalled and will take a few more hours.

(Hey guys -- how're all y'all?)

Pardonyou!! Hi there, old friend! How are things? Do you still visit Wright-Patt every now and then?

Posted by: tizzie on September 13, 2006 10:50 PM

Hey, tizzie. Although I was spending some quality time in Dayton, it wasn't Wright-Patt -- the company I work for just has five manufacturing facilities in the greater Dayton area (at least it does as of today -- the times, they are a-changin). I do still get down from time-to-time, but not as frequently as I used to.

How are you? How's the family?

Posted by: pardonyou? on September 14, 2006 09:45 AM

The times are indeed changing! I'm going to take my big kid out to dinner tonight to celebrate - he will be 25 years old tomorrow.

I can scarcely believe it, and hey, I was there.

Posted by: tizzie on September 14, 2006 10:28 AM

Pssst, Aine. I saw them live at Lebowskifest two years ago and they were brilliant.

Posted by: tizzie on September 15, 2006 08:25 AM

Did everybody [err, anybody?] know this?

Best wishes, jonmc and pips!

Posted by: tizzie on September 15, 2006 04:05 PM

Wow, how incredibly inappropriate to take that thread and try to make it about oneself.

Posted by: jpoulos on September 15, 2006 04:15 PM

You can say that again.

Posted by: dana on September 15, 2006 04:20 PM

FWIW, I had announced it elsewhere and it came up incidentally, whether you want to believe it or not. But, thanks for the well wishes.

Posted by: jonmc on September 15, 2006 04:37 PM

Dejah's comment in that thread made me proud that she's one of us.

Posted by: tizzie on September 15, 2006 06:06 PM

Tizzie -- Thanks for the concert tip. With my luck, that will also be a hockey night. Every damn time there's a good concert during hockey season, it's on game night. I swear they're doing this to taunt me.

Posted by: aine42 on September 15, 2006 06:31 PM

aine, it's good to know that someone has their hockey priorities straight.

Why not join in and say something too?

A note about posting images:

We encourage users to post images, especially those hilarous pics of monkeys wearing dresses or programming for Linux. But posting images that reside on someone else's server is considered by many to be bandwidth theft. Our thoughts on the matter, along with some solutions to the problem, can be found here. Thanks.
