WE DID IT

Above: A Helping Hands helper monkey assists one of the programs most "challenged" individuals. Thanks to your donations, Jason can now lead a reasonably normal life--except for all the poo.

Thanks to your kind and generous donations to the Buy-A-Brick fund, we have enough to buy the brick.

The tally has reached $92.08 (after PayPal fees). One of the admins has conveniently found $7.92 in the cushions of his sofa, to put us over the top.

We'll send out the check on Monday. Zod only knows how long it will take to actually get a brick installed, but we'll keep you updated.

The monkeys thank you.

Woo hoo! There are more of you awake this early?

Posted by: adampsyche at August 10, 2002 09:52 AM

Only to watch MST3K.

Posted by: jpoulos at August 10, 2002 09:58 AM

(Also, please note, that's not a real Helping Hands customer above. It's kottke. I'd hate anyone who didn't recognize him to take me seriously. The folks Helping Hands benefits actually have severe disabilities.)

Posted by: jpoulos at August 10, 2002 10:01 AM

YAY! *flings celebratory poo*

What's the brick gonna say? Did we decide?

Posted by: tizzie at August 10, 2002 10:17 AM

This was probably covered previously but: Is there a way do still get in on this? Without a paypal acct.? Someone drop me an email or something.

Posted by: anathema at August 10, 2002 10:28 AM

Anathema, you can mail the money right to

Them cripples need monkeys.

Heh. One minute we're going to heaven, the next, we're going to hell.

Posted by: ColdChef at August 10, 2002 11:45 AM

Check's in the mail donger!

Posted by: anathema at August 10, 2002 12:44 PM

*folds hands*

Excellent.

Posted by: dong resin at August 10, 2002 01:10 PM

Hey, that's great.

It's a small good thing, to give a little bit. We have actually talked about having a different charity every month or so, monkey-related or not, that we can link to and members can drop a five-spot.

Purely voluntary of course.

I'm proud of us. Let's go get us an ice cream bar.

Posted by: kafkaesque at August 10, 2002 02:15 PM

*sniff*

That's so great! In case we feel like poking around at monkey causes, I found this site with LOADS of them (really about gorillas) to choose from, although I don't know which ones are reputable and which ones are those Enron type charities.

I'm on the hunt for reputable ones, or you could put the choke chain back on me and tell me, "git your monkey-lovin' hands outta my pocketbook!" I would understand.

Posted by: readymade at August 10, 2002 02:44 PM

The name GorillaAid reminds me of FarmAid.

Posted by: adampsyche at August 10, 2002 02:52 PM

I think of a glass full of really thick grey fur.

Posted by: dong resin at August 10, 2002 03:20 PM

Since GorillaAid strikes up images of either John Cougar Menstrualcramp or Gorilla Gin Fizzes, I offer this site, since people seemed moved by the very odd looking and very endangered monkeys of Viet Nam.

Will ya look at that face?

Posted by: readymade at August 10, 2002 03:51 PM

*thinks about readymade in a choke chain*

*remembers she's married*

*remembers her husband likes to dress up as Dorothy*

*goes back to thinking about readymade in a choke chain*

Posted by: jpoulos at August 10, 2002 04:07 PM

(lest my impulses here be confused with over-eager charitable monkey-pandering, these links are offered as no more than ideas, and should be overlooked, ignored, or generally snubbed if it is felt that I am becoming the Nader of monkeys.

But if thinking about me in a choke chain helps the monkeys, *sniff* I am a willing to make that sacrifice.)

Posted by: readymade at August 10, 2002 04:18 PM

Cool. That's all I have to say. Just cool. Oh, and I really think that donger should be our next charity. Get that man a dvd player. I mean, I have three all dolby 5.1 compatible. The least he could have is one. Multi-angle porn just isn't available in VHS.

Posted by: eyeballkid at August 10, 2002 06:27 PM

So, looking at that pic above, it occurs to me.

You know you're A-List when they let you play with monkeys.

Posted by: jpoulos at August 10, 2002 07:07 PM

Hey, by the way, John, didn't you say that you live near the zoo where the bricks will reside?

Make sure you post a nice brick pic.

Seriously, I am moved by the spirit of giving you all displayed. Further proof to me that we have assembled a good group of people here.

Posted by: kafkaesque at August 11, 2002 02:39 AM

It's actually, I think, just down the road from da Commish. But either way, if the brick ever actually gets put there, we'll get a picture.

I think the consensus was that the brick would just say:

9622.net

Am I right?

Posted by: jpoulos at August 11, 2002 02:58 PM

Re: the zoo location - indeed, it is (just down the road from me). I will gladly get a picture of the 9622.net brick in situ when it is installed.

Posted by: yhbc at August 11, 2002 03:34 PM

9622.net

I think so.

Posted by: kafkaesque at August 11, 2002 04:02 PM

9622.net - yep. Yay, us!

Posted by: tizzie at August 11, 2002 04:30 PM

MoFi alert!

Posted by: anathema at August 11, 2002 08:00 PM

Will there come a time when all monkey pages on the net have been linked to? Then what will happen?

Posted by: Summer at August 12, 2002 09:36 AM

The well of monkey matter is ever-replenishing.

Posted by: adampsyche at August 12, 2002 09:48 AM

Are members of Mofi called mofos?

Posted by: Summer at August 12, 2002 10:17 AM

Are we buying a second brick? I never had any funds available on my cards to donate, or is there another banana projet we can participate with 9622 net? Monkey's *splat*(the smell of poo)

UPDATE
__________

I received this about 10 days ago and completely forgot to post it.

Dear John,

Thank you for your recent donation to the Helping Hands Buy a Brick program. It is still in effect and I will gladly send you a photo of your brick when placed. Due to the weather in New England we do brick placing once a year, usually in July. We will send you a photo as soon as its placed.

There will be a formal Thank you sent in the mail as well.

Thank you,

Skott Alfred Wade

Yay!

Posted by: kafkaesque at October 7, 2002 05:40 PM

Let him know we'd also like to have the monkey for a few weeks in late July. You know, for some "bonding."
